Carrion: Some Dems in a Corner Over Spitzer's Plan

If you’re following where everybody stands on Eliot Spitzer’s plan to allow illegal immigrants to obtain a New York State driver’s license, update your score cards.

Adolfo Carrion supports it. Speaking on NY1 News last night, Carrion said, “I support this initiative until there is a national, rational response to this, which I think we need to deal with.” Earlier, Carrion had gone with a statement that was less specific.

On the show, Carrion described Spitzer plan as a “limited response” and a “practical solution,” which Democrats are grappling with. Carrion said Spitzer “is going to take a hit, and he’s taking a hit. And there are Democrats in this town, in this very city and across the state, who feel now that they’re painted into a corner.”

Among the Democrats who, as far as I'm aware, still haven't taken a position on the issue: Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer and Representatives John Hall, Mike Arcuri and Tim Bishop.

If anyone knows anything about where they stand, please let me know.

That was a very impressive appearance by Carrion last night. Everywhere I turn he is there.

It's amazing how Tim Bishop skirts around one of the most important issues of the day, granting driver's licenses to illegal aliens. This is not rocket science. Most all of us know the importance of this crucial piece of identification. Yet Congressman Bishop doesn't seem to care that it opens the airways to exactly the people whom we need to scrutinize the most. Think for a moment, why would he be so quiet on this situation? The answer is simple, he does not want to lose the vote of the Latin community. He realizes the coming election puts him against a tough, fearless war veteran. He cannot risk losing any votes (even if it may put many of innocent people at risk).

Oh please. Why should Tim Bishop go along with the right wing anti-immigrants who paint every landscaper as a potential terrorist? Isn't that what the Republicans are for?

Rudolpho J. Pons (not verified) says:

Tim Bishop does anything that his elitist friends in the HAMPTONS want him to do. In this case, Tim Bishop is facilitating the transportation needs of the illegal employees, i.e. domestics, lawn caretakers, etc.
