Tony Avella on Quinn, Secret Government
Last night I saw City Councilman Tony Avella of Queens, who is officially running for mayor, speaking at an event in midtown hosted by DFNYC and some local Democratic clubs.
Avella, chair of the zoning and franchise committee, has long been a critic of his colleagues things like going “on and on without saying anything” and voting for their own pay raises.
In this clip (shot, once again, in night-vision mode), Avella rips into the speaker of the City Council (and his potential mayoral rival) Christine Quinn for allegedly obeying the whims of the real estate industry, who make their wants known in private telephone calls. Avella calls it the “secret government.”
(Tech Note: Yes, Avella knew I was filming. And full disclosure, my mom lives in his district.)

I really can't belive he's saying this stuff, considering that he's been backed by the same surepticious sources that he's complaining about. Such as when The Great Leonard tried to get an article published blasting Gary Ackerman. Or when the party bosses got him on the working families line with forged petitions, that were later thrown out in court. The Judge stated that they permeated with fraud, in regards to the bulk of the petitioning done by an attorney, who had been the general counsel to an elected state assembly woman, and was just last week elected as a civil court judge in the 6th municipal court district. The county organization went back to court to have the line permeated with fraud removed from the record. Which hidden agenda government is Tony talking about. Maybe they should ask Evan.
