Traveling on I-95 on a summer weekend has never been pleasant, but this weekend you can expect it to be particularly rough.

Amtrak announced that its Accela and regional service between New York, Boston, and New Haven will be cancelled from June 14 to June 17 so the moveable span of the 90-year-old Thames River Bridge connecting Groton and New London, Conn., can be replaced.

During the four-day track outage, Amtrak will also perform a maintenance "blitz" between Boston and New Haven that the rail carrier promises will provide passengers with a "smoother ride and significantly improve the reliability of the railroad."

The thousands of travelers who rely on the route from Beantown to Gotham whether for business or to catch that ferry to Fisher's Island will surely take Amtrak's promises with a grain of salt, especially now that they'll have one more excruciating travel hassle to deal with this summer.
