The Clinton Imperative: Make Wisconsin the Next New Hampshire
The last time Hillary Clinton's campaign seemed to be on the brink of collapse she pulled out an improbable win in New Hampshire.
Now, five weeks later, the vultures are back. She's lost eight straight contests since Super Tuesday and most pundits have penciled her in for two more next Tuesday, in Wisconsin and Hawaii. And her grip on Ohio and Texas (in particular) may be slipping, and if she can't win those states on March 4, then the end will be at hand.
Sounds like the perfect set-up for Clinton to pull another rabbit out of the hat. And, several polls now show, she may be moving into position to do just that in Wisconsin. Both Research 2000 and Rasmussen have Obama leading the Badger State, but only slightly—by five and four points, respectively.
That's a clear improvement for Obama from Wisconsin surveys taken before his recent charge, but could it also be his high-water mark? It seems like his post-Potomac Tuesday bounce has peaked, and now Clinton is up on the air with a negative ad and is set to spend the weekend barnstorming the state. A win is not at all out of reach for her.
On paper, Wisconsin is a winnable state for Clinton, filled with the working-class Democrats who have formed the backbone of her coalition in other states. But the math is more complicated for her in Wisconsin because it is also home to many progressive reformers who naturally gravitate toward Obama. The difference—as in New Hampshire—could be made by women: They flocked to Clinton at the last minute and saved her in New Hampshire. With her back against the wall, will they give her a super-lopsided margin in Wisconsin, the kind that could tip the state into her column?
A Clinton win in Wisconsin would dramatically alter the Democratic race, killing Obama's perceived momentum and halting the Clinton slide in Texas and Ohio. No matter what they say publicly about being happy to keep it close, the Clinton campaign surely realizes the opportunity they have to pull off a surprise next week.

Well, there is one difference between New Hampshire and Wisconsin not discussed here: the former is a more conservative, whiter than white state filled with voters who probably concealed their biases, thus confounding the pundits and pollsters, and rendering the exit polls virtually useless. To the extent that was the case, this factor will likely be absent in Wisconsin, and play to Obama's advantage.
What horseshit. How can people continue to talk about white voting bias when blacks are voting for Obama at 85-90 percent? By all objective measures, the REAL racial bias in evidence in this primary season is that of blacks, not whites. New Hampshire was 94 percent white, yet Obama came rather close to winning. Would Hillary Clinton stand a snowball's chance in hell of competing in a state that was 94 percent black?
Further, this leftist myth about whites who "conceal biases" when speaking to pollsters is just that. The polls got it wrong in New Hampshire. They were wrong about Dewey and Truman, too. Further, WHY ON EARTH was there no mention of the fact that Obama's margins with blacks in South Carolina and Nevada turned out to be FAR HIGHER than pre-primary polls indicated? On the eve of South Carolina, polls showed Obama polling at 64-66 percent among blacks, yet exit polls showed that he carried about 80 percent. In Nevada, polls show him carrying 66-68 percent of black support, yet he wound up with 84 percent.
Could it be that blacks "concealed their biases," too?
OF COURSE NOT! AND WHY?
Because the self-loathing liberal media elites and their black demagogue masters refuse to allow objective, race-neutral coverage of blacks or black candidates. So far as they're concerned, racism is an exclusive product of the white community.
She might be able to but I tend to think that this movement that is going on with Obama has swelled beyond her control. This movement has been trying to take off but in NH its wings got clipped. Obama was suppose to win by polls taken the day before by 13 points and he end up losing by 4. The media coverage of Hillary may have done that people felt she was unfairly attacked and voted for her. If Obama had won NH by that 13 points it would have taken off and he would have rolled through NV and SC unto Super Tuesday. But NH stemmed that tide. It picked up again in SC but Hillary quickly went to Flordia and gave a stump speech over ghost degates but it did helped to stemm the movment. AFter Super Tuesday he has won 8 in a row. And he didnt just win he won by a large margin. And he didtn just win his base he won hers. It finally was able to take off and 8 convincing wins piled up. She has to try and stem it in WI because if he wins WI in double digits and even Hawaii he may just roll right through Ohio and Texas.
This is a movment and Hillary needs to treat it as such meaning when he starts winning even though it may be favorable to him and fight to stem that tide. In some ways I think this movement is bigger than Obama.
Carol
Hillary's done, put a fork in her. Wisconsin and Texas notwithstanding, she will lose. Wisconsin is far more liberal than NH; it will be solidly behind Obama.
To Carol:
What IS the Obama movement, really? Is it a legitimate movement predicated on perspicuous, clearly delineated policy reform, or is it about identity politics?
I'm hard-pressed to imagine the former because the truth of the matter is that none but the most perfervid Obama supporters even KNOW what his policies are. Were I to take into consideration all the time I've spent watching Obama's speeches and interviews, it'd likely total in excess of an entire day. Yet I have nothing more than the vague notion of what this man proposes to do and absolutely no idea how he proposes to do it.
It's increasingly clear to me that the overwhelming majority of Obama's support comes from three sources: (1) self-interested blacks who are going to elect a black guy at any cost; (2) affluent whites under 35 who want to shrive their guilt; and (3) fly-over types who hate Hillary Clinton and would not vote for her regardless of her policies. Most of the policy-driven Democrats are voting for Hillary Clinton.
A response for RON X:
1) The "self-interested blacks" are the black political hacks who support Billary.
2) Yes, more affluent whites support Obama. The "Archie Bunkers" support Hillary. I guess I'm going to have to explain this to you Ron X, the affluent white are opinion leaders. Sorry. If VA is any sign, the "Archie Bunkers are starting to wise up.
3) Obama appears to be king of the "fly over" states. (Check your map Ronnie). Billary won Mass, NY and CA and not very much else. Her staunch supporters continue to ignore her support of the war mongering idiot-liar.
Hillary will be ready on day one to make rotten, Bush-like decisions.
You: The "self-interested blacks" are the black political hacks who support Billary.
Me: Hardly. The black primary voters have been responsible for some of the most glaringly racist, race-line voting in memory. Had David Duke run against Jesse Jackson in the racist South of the 1960s, he'd have been hard pressed to do better with whites than Obama has done with blacks. All this from people who purported to love the Clintons for the last 15 years!
You: Yes, more affluent whites support Obama. The "Archie Bunkers" support Hillary. I guess I'm going to have to explain this to you Ron X, the affluent white are opinion leaders. Sorry.
Me: This kind of shameless, elitist horseshit is why we've had one Democratic president in the last 28 years and why Democrats can't get a vote away from the coasts. This is what's so absurd about Democratic-party politics. If you say something about blacks, Jews, gays, or illegal immigrants, they want to label you a bigot, yet unless you grew up in the right place, went to the right school, or share the quixotic causes of the affluent, they won't speak to you. Priceless. This is why Democrats can't get a vote in the South, which was formerly a Democratic stronghold. There was a time, not too long ago, when a Republican couldn't get a vote in Texas. Now it's nearly the opposite. And why? Because of people like you.
You: If VA is any sign, the "Archie Bunkers are starting to wise up.
Me: And "wise up" should mean voting for a guy with no discernible policies, all of three years in the Senate, and absolutely no executive experience on any level of government? That is not a presidential resume, and I simply don't have enough guilt to feel compelled to vote for him simply because he's a Magic Black Guy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magical_Negro).
You: Obama appears to be king of the "fly over" states. (Check your map Ronnie). Billary won Mass, NY and CA and not very much else.
Me: She won California, New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Florida. She's going to win Texas, Pennsylvania, and Ohio. That will be the end of the story. She's winning the big states.
You: Her staunch supporters continue to ignore her support of the war mongering idiot-liar.
Me: As opposed to Obama, who (1) didn't have to cast a vote because he wasn't in the Senate when the War vote came up; and (2) continually voted "present" on crucial issues throughout his history in the Illinois State legislature. In fact, he cast "present" votes even on core Democratic issues like gun control (SB 71 and SB 759) and abortion rights(HB 382 and SB 230). Voting "present" is WORSE than making a bad vote because it evinces a total lack of conviction and a preoccupation with protecting your record against future attacks. It's essentially an abdication of your Office. Hillary made a mistake on the war, but I'd take her "yes" vote over Obama's strategic cop-outs any day of the week.
And don't forget Hillary's smear tactics with women implying that Barack was soft on women's rights. It lost her at least one major supporter, the prior president of NOW Chicago who told the Clinton campaign that this was a lie and they did it anyway. She now supports Obama. Many women in NH have come out publicly and said they were duped by the Clinton campaign and regret changing their vote from Obama to Clinton.
Ron x is completly on target, really what does Obama stand for?
Calling Hillary Billary is very mean spirited.
I find Obama to be very preachy. He is no Martin Luther King.
You: And don't forget Hillary's smear tactics with women implying that Barack was soft on women's rights.
Me: Soft on women's rights? You mean the guy who continually voted "present" on abortion-rights issues in the Illinois State legislature? That guy? Oh, him.
Speaking of smears, what about Obama's absolutely disgusting attempt to portray Hillary as a racist in South Carolina by suggesting that she was trying to disparage Martin Luther King when she merely stated that LBJ helped realize King's dream? Obama was more than content to play the role of the post-racial unifying candidate in places like Iowa, but as soon as he lost New Hampshire and Nevada, he decided to tap into black paranoia and racism in by grossly manipulating an innocent comment.
YOU: It lost her at least one major supporter, the prior president of NOW Chicago who told the Clinton campaign that this was a lie and they did it anyway. She now supports Obama.
ME: Too bad NOW already endorsed Hillary. But regardless of endorsement, who really cares about NOW? NOW is a lunatic-fringe organization with very little support from anyone other than ugly women and lesbians. Let's tell the truth.
Hey Ronx.... I am a lesbian and extremly pretty and hot.
Unofficial Tallies in City Underestimated Obama Vote - NYT -2/16/08

[Black voters are heavily represented in the 94th Election District in Harlem’s 70th Assembly District. Yet according to the unofficial results from the New York Democratic primary last week, not a single vote in the district was cast for Senator Barack Obama.
That anomaly was not unique. In fact, a review by The New York Times of the unofficial results reported on primary night found about 80 election districts among the city’s 6,106 where Mr. Obama supposedly did not receive even one vote, including cases where he ran a respectable race in a nearby district.] - Excerpt NYT.com
Hillary Clinton is the Junior Senator from the State of New York and her husband has a faux Office in Harlem. They were welcomed by New Yorkers and supported over years by African-Americans. Their superdelegates are getting VERY BUSY and desperate, positioning Hillary Clinton to benefit by a State by State disenfrichisement of voters. A former President is part of this PLAN. Turn the page.
Charlie Rangel, Adam Clayton Powell is turning over in his grave. For shame. Turn the page on Charlie as well! Time for a NEW GENERATION of leadership and representation. I believe the quote is..."no taxation without representation?" That was the beginning of the American REVOLUTION! Seems like we have to address this same theme...again, in the 21st Century. Disenfranchised voters State by State...Election after Election. We don't just need a new Election process, we need a TRANSFORMATION and REFORMATION! Turn the page!

Me: Renatam, I have a question:
What percentage of black political theories involve a bizarre, tortuous, and highly improbable conspiracy theory?
I understand that there have been some conspiracies throughout history, but according to fringe blacks, EVERY negative development in black history has been the fruit of a racist conspiracy.
I am watching a Hillary Clinton speech where she is AGAIN co-opting Barack Obama's message and language. She is literally yelling -- "YES WE WILL" repeatedly and trying to get the crowd to yell it also...saying "we got a little hot on our rhetoric, but we got a little excited." She is belatedly pitching her website and tel. no. DURING THE SPEECH (and debates!). She is so inauthentic she will co-opt and steal ANYTHING. Cry. Yell. Mimic as if we don't SEE (like the MACHINE) how inauthentic. Sadly, the crowd was as amazed at the knock-off as I was -- and didn't respond and join her. John McCain is also leveraging Mr. Obama's words this week as well. Turn the page. YES WE WILL??? Pathetic. Guess she STILL hasn't "found her own voice" since NH. How many years does it take??? Turn the page.
RonX:
ZERO votes for Mr. Obama in Harlem??? I don't speak for/against "blacks." I do question the integrity of America's voting system, the setup that would give us this improbable outcome. Ditto, Floridians who did not vote for Pat Buchanan. I am not the issue. That is a distraction. Focus on the issue, which is...one man/woman -- one vote, Constitutionally protected. If this is not happening and there is no apparatus to ensure it does, REPAIR IT IMMEDIATELY. Period. We subsidize the infrastructure and apparatus of the American government and systems. We have a right to expect they WORK. ACCOUNTABILITY needs to be restored across-the-board in order for Democracy to work. Inflammatory language is a distraction. This isn't about ethnicity or conspiracy theories. This is about ACCOUNTABILITY and working systems we pay for. NEXT!
It's neither race, gender, nor economic status turning so many Democrats against Hillary this year, but rather a sydrome that can be described simply in two words: "Clinton Fatigue."
Bill Clinton said today that Hillary Clinton is the one who can end excessive partisanship and get things done. Is there anybody, anywhere with common sense who actually believes that?
Ron X:
The Clintons, their MACHINE and their ilk will never change -- and that should not be the focus, nor was it the point. The point is to REPAIR the infrastructure/apparatus of what we like to think is the world's best Democracy -- to ensure those who would EXPLOIT its frailties and, having held Office not done whatever it took/takes to ensure the systems work FOR Democracy and not AGAINST it -- are in place. Every cycle we are faced with a dillema about the insecurity if the voting systems in place with much hand wringing, when we can all go to an ATM anywhere in the world and do our banking. This neglect works for the status quo politicians. They depend upon it as the last place to thwart voters who do not do what they want. It works FOR incumbents and prevents newcomers from breaking through. THAT MUST END. ANY American of good standing should be able to run for Office anywhere in this great land -- and have a fair playing field to do so. Tammany Hall-like MACHINES, operatives, special interests are costing Americans too much. THIS breakdown needs more than handwringing by establishment politicians who had/have the reins of power to change this setup, but don't. Skip the "conspiracy theory" incindiary language and focus on the problem...and those who FEED off the problem. NOBODY can say this setup is working. Call it whatever you want, but turn the page.
Rico T.: I agree with you and it is propagandist SPIN, buttressed w/the MEDIA's understandable respect for an over-reaching former President and his spouse, that propagates it. The MEDIA and voters must understand this year is not business as usual, and the Clintons are exploiting their unique position and seeking a THIRD/FOURTH illegal term(s). Americans and the MEDIA cannot afford to march in lock step w/the Clinton MACHINE, this time around. Republicans, Independents and the majority of Democratic Primary voters thus far KNOW the Clintons are divisive. Divide and conquer isn't working for them/their MACHINE, this time. There's too much at stake. Bill, back out of his box today, is speaking about how many jobs were lost since he (or is it they?) left Office. What he doesn't speak about are the NAFTA and other TRADE AGREEMENTS, and DEREGULATION/GLOBALIZATION of our industries...and the impact this has had on the job security, retirement security and lives of Americans. George W. Bush's mismanaged wars and erosions of American security -- began during the Clinton Administrations and he never would have been elected were it not for the SCANDALS of the Clinton Administrations, as Al Gore knows. Mr. Obama will dissect BOTH the Clinton and Bush Administrations -- and the IMPACT on the American people, w/out SPIN. He will make THE CASE for TRANSFORMATION. Divisiveness is more distraction like religious politics and conspiracy theories. Americans are not falling for these games this time. Turn the page.
You could also say that according to fringe whites, EVERY negative development in white history has been the fruit of a racist conspiracy -- against them.
This is why I find Sen. Obama so refreshing. He understands that these are the United States of America. He refuses to play the politics of division, whether they be for gender or for race. I cannot say this about Mrs. Clinton -- on both accounts.
But then again, maybe the whites who voted for Obama voted for his Caucasian half...(See how ridiculous it all is?)
And speaking of voting biases, am I the only one who finds it passing strange that the media spends very little attention on the monolithic bloc of Caucasian voters who vote Republican? It would behoove the poltical pundits to look into impetus behind that, for a change. Oh wait...
Maybe Mrs. Clinton will shed a few more ersatz tears. Could happen.
Alohilani: I agree. Running/managing a Campaign based upon dated, tired divisions is ridiculous. Mr. Obama isn't the ONLY African-American that has white relatives. Take a look around. Thomas Jefferson, one of the Founding Fathers and author of the Declaration of Independence, had children with Sally Hemmings -- a SLAVE. When Mr. Obama laughs about his being related to Dick Cheney, he is addressing the stupidity of this dated/tired discussion front and center. African-Americans have waited for this moment in our history for our white brethern to get how ridiculous this is. You can't choose your relatives in the United States of America -- and those of us who have a lineage that goes back multiple generations knows we are ALL related. Only newcomers who have bought into these dated/tired historical narratives are left. The Clintons (and Ms. Solis-Doyle's MANAGEMENT) tapped into this zeitgist with their Latino strategy, to the detriment of Latinos who are also not monolithic. Blatently fostering a NATIONAL IDENTITIFICATION FOR LATINOS AS OVERT RACISTS is not positive -- and some Hispanic NY politicians are moving toward Barack because they realized how damaging this will be for their futures. Of course, EVERYTHING/EVERYONE is currency for the Clintons to use and discard...as Ms. Solis-Doyle realized too late. Hopefully, Latinos will see their own future in her experience and quickly CORRECT this racist identity FAST. They will be left behind as America once again goes through a new TRANSITION, which ironically makes it more possible for quality woman to move into the upper ranks of politics, business and other realms -- as the Civil Rights Movement buttressed and was leveraged by Gloria Steinem's Women's Rights Movement in the 1960s -- though you will NEVER hear her or Feminists openly say it. We want our best and brightest and, perhaps more from Harvard, Yale, Princeton...and dare we say it...Stanford...will seek careers to SERVE instead of the autopilot fast track to RICHES at the expense of others, in a 40 year clamor up the corporate/special interest/Office as PROFIT totem pole -- following the Bushes/Clintons.

Mea culpa: That's look into (the) impetus.
Does any one remember the 120 missing pages of the Barrett Report? If so (or if not), I think that this article from the Washington Times encapsulates every distasteful worry some of us have about a Clinton nomination, and then some: Not just the old scandals, but new scandals, with no end in sight. Nothing ever changes about the Clintons; nothing...

Were it not for the backing of billionaires like the Obama campaign's national finance chair, Penny Pritzker, it's unlikely that Obama would be in such a good position to move into the White House in 2009. Ironically, the Obama campaign's national finance chair was a board member of Superior Bank--which collapsed in July 2001, after its board allowed it to engage in financially reckless subprime mortgage lending and predatory lending. The collapse of the Pritzkers' Superior Bank cost U.S. taxpayers $440 million. See the Nov. 8, 2002 article that appeared in In These Times, titled "Breaking The Bank," at the following link for more info about Penny Pritzker's role in the Superior Bank S&L scandal:

I like RonX. He seems smart. I voted for Hillary, yessiree.
I agree with you 900%, I could not have said it better myself.
Hello My Fellow Americans,
We must pick a President who can stand up and battle for us and our Country without backing down. The next President is walking into the White House with a massive mess left on the desk waiting for them. Regardless of who it is, they are going to be faced with a great challenge. One that will require experience, dedication, and someone with solutions to those problems.
I am not here trying to put anyone down. But I am asking you to step back away from the Obama Hype, and really look at him, what solutions has he offered? What details has he shared with America in how he is going to get the job done? He hasn't.
True, he gives great speeches. But speeches aren't solutions. Speeches don't pay for your education, put food on your table, put clothes on your back, and his health care does not cover all Americans. He plans on cutting the cost, but offers no detail as in how he will do that. What about those people who still wont be able to afford it even when the cost has been cut?
His plan will leave over 15 million Americans as they are "without health coverage". How many of you who do not have health coverage are voting for him? I wonder how many of you will be one of those 15 millions not covered by his plan?
People like to try and remind everyone of every single mistake Hillary has made in her life. We all make mistakes, we learn from them, they make us wiser further on down the road.
Hillary's health care plan includes every single American. Yes she tried getting this plan through before and it failed, it failed because of drug and insurance companies knocking it, and now those companies have came together and are now backing her, have helped her come up with the plan, she will lower drug cost and insurance cost, and even then, those who still can not afford it after that has been done, will be covered by the Gov. Its a great plan, as many of her other plans are.
I for one am glad that Hillary and former candidate John Edwards, supports UHC for all Americans under this plan, because far too many little children and teenage children are without coverage while the parents are out drinking the money up, playing poker etc, and not giving a hoot about those childrens health care. And we also have many Americans who just cannot afford it no matter how cheap it is because far too many other bills need to be paid.
But I am just asking you to really look at both Clinton and Obama without gender and race being a factor, look at their ideas and solutions. Vote to better yourself and your family, and America. And in my opinion, only one person stands out for that job.

I think he will be our next president and yes, he is another Martin Luther King or John Kennedy rolled into one.
Hillary and Bill will say and do "anything" to get elected.

Your piece added nothing, Steve. But I think you know that. "Hillary would like to pull off an upset in Wisconsin" is the news you offer us? This is already known to all.
