CWA Union Endorses Squardon
Here’s more endorsement news from the race between State Senator Marty Connor and his challenger, former Chuck Schumer aide Dan Squadron.
The Communication Workers of America Local 1 announced they are endorsing Squadron. For an insurgent, that's a major coup.
It's also worth noting that the union’s statement acknowledges there isn't much difference between the two candidates on policy:
Squadron's opponent—Senator Martin Connor—has been in office for decades. In the highly progressive 25th State Senate District, on many important issues the candidates profess similar, or even identical, views. Yet Squadron has the energy, fresh perspective and detailed understanding of the issues to effectively move legislation.

Union Cites Candidate’s Energy and Fresh Perspective
Today, it was announced that the Communications Workers of America – Local 1 endorsed Daniel Squadron for State Senate in the 25th District, which covers parts of Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan.
The CWA statement (attached) hailed Squadron’s progressive energy and ability to get results. “Daniel Squadron is a strong progressive who will energetically and effectively move a worker-friendly policy agenda,” the union said. “Squadron has the energy, fresh perspective, and detailed understanding of the issues to effectively move legislation.”
“I am so pleased that the working men and women of CWA – Local 1 share my progressive vision for Albany,” Squadron said. “Together, we will fight with workers and consumers for better jobs, lower prices and stronger consumer protections.”
Daniel Squadron is running an insurgent campaign to unseat a thirty-year incumbent. Squadron is running on a platform of changing Albany so we can deliver results for our neighborhoods, and has refused contributions from PACs, corporations and lobbyists. He has been endorsed by U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, the progressive Working Families Party, the Downtown Independent Democrats and UAW Region 9A.
Isn't it Ironic that the only difference CWA could find between Squadron and Connor, and the pivot of their endorsement, is that Sqaudron has the "detailed understanding of the issues to effectively move legislation." Anyone who has heard Connor speak knows that he has a wealth of knowledge on the district's issues, and on legislation, unmatchable by most electeds, not to mention a newcomer to the district.
It's amazing how insecure the Connor hacks are; At any press mention of Squadron they make these nasty cutting posts. Connor's 30 years is showing, and not in a good way. I for one am ready for a new kind of politics...
I have met Daniel Squadron and am not impressed. He is so well-versed on the issues that he sought to attach himself to me to learn about historic preservation, a major concern in both the Brooklyn and Manhattan parts of the district, although I told him I am an old friend of the Senator's. In Manhattan Sen. Connor helped save St. Brigid's church and has helped fund the expansion of the Carroll Gardens Historic District.
Squadron is merely a rich boy (his father was public relations man Howard Squadron) who thinks he can buy public office with no record in the community. He did a stint with Sen. Schumer and thinks that qualifies him for public office.
What really angers me, however, is that Mr. Squadron made it a point to tell me about the synagogue he attends because I am also a Jew, and he thinks this may make me support him. Now I don't mind if people vote for their own, but I believe it is offensive to American concepts of fairness and diversity to advocate this.
I remember that former Governor Hugh L. Carey, who I knew when he lived in Park Slope, was quoted as telling a supporter who said "We beat the Jew" (his primary opponent in 1974, the late Howard Samuels), "he's an American too." That represents the best of America.
