Donnie Darko Sequel in the Works

Donnie Darko’s little sister is all grown up and heading to LA. Or at least she will be when S. Darko, the sequel to the 2001 cult film, Donnie Darko, starts shooting May 18.
According to Cinematical, it's seven years after her brother's death and Samantha (Daveigh Chase), now 18, is roadtripping with her best friend, Corey, when they are “plagued by bizarre visions.” The fun doesn’t stop there! The $10 million picture will mix fantasy and reality just like the original, and, as Simon Crowe of sales company Velvet Octopus put it, "Donnie's not in [the new film] but there are meteorites and rabbits."
The similarities may end there. Ms. Chase is the only member of the original cast who’ll appear in the sequel, and Richard Kelly, who wrote and directed the original Donnie Darko, is not involved. Chris Fisher (a horror film vet who directed titles including Nightstalker) will helm the film.
But the real question is, can someone please travel back in time and drop a jet engine on this idea?

how can they do this... donnie darko left everything tied up nicely and now they want to throw some new... money making... pop culture sequel at us... I think NOT
I really can't believe this. It's just sounds so ridiculous to be true. I'm in no way a fanboy of Donnie Darko (often times, I enjoy nitpicking on it), but this is more ludicrous then remaking blade runner.
This is completely ridiculous. I don't know a single person who thinks this is a good idea.
Why is Hollywood so freaking lame now?
Donnie Darko was a success for those 'Tarintino' fans. Like his movies, they are mixed with drama, action, and comedy. Yet with this upcoming sequel to Darko, things may be getting out of hand. Every fan will probally want to see this, to know if it will be any good, because as the way it looks [9/10 chance] this isn't a good idea. Even Richard Kelly doesn't think it's a good idea.
Daveigh Chase is gonna be the only thing somone attractive about this movie i think but the Original is my fav and always will be R.I.P Donnie
Daveigh's the reason i'm going to watch this movie, she's amazing!!!
This is the most ridiculous thing I've heard in years. First they want to remake 'Friday The 13th' and 'A Nightmare On Elm Street'. And now they're making a sequel to 'Donnie Darko'? I must say that I am a fan of the orginal, but this just makes no sense. If Donnie's dead, then how can they put the rabbit in the sequel? No wonder why no one from the original cast [with the exception of one actor] is participating in it. It's pure lunacy!
