How Much Is That HuffPo In the Window? $200 M.!
via huffingtonpost.com

How much is a group blog and news aggregator worth these days? According to an unnamed source "who was briefed on discussions but was not permitted to speak for attribution" in a New York Times article about The Huffington Post today: "the company has at least looked at the value of the site if it were put up for sale, and a figure around $200 million was used."

Well, it's no Facebook, but maybe it's time to start paying those bloggers?

Speculation- Ms Huffington &/or her backers could be looking at a start-up of a financial daily since his Rupertship is changing the WALL ST JL into a general interest daily. The UK's FINANCIAL TIMES has an American ed which has a head start on becoming the USA's de facto financial newspaper of record as the WSJ becomes a general interest daily. Some Yanks have made the FT's American Ed's a must read. Perhaps a US based financial daily could take the WSJ's niche & push FT out of the nest which FT is making in the soon to be empty niche Mr Murdoch & the WSJ are abandoning. The venture capital may still be available despite the bursting of the subprime bubble. Ms Huffington &/or her backers have an impressive record in making the HUFFINGTON POST into a condender to become the USA's 1st newspaper of record.
