The Nation Captures McCain in 'The Palin Trap'

With its September 29th issue, The Nation offers its own spin on The New Yorker's "The Politics of Fear" cover by Barry Blitt.
Mr. Blitt's cover, which ran in July, inspired a number of parodies. Now, The Nation revamped the image as "The Palin Trap," by Karen Caldicott (with cover design by Steven Brower). It shows John McCain in his Naval uniform giving a high-five (and his signature approving pointing gesture) to Sarah Palin, who's dressed in her aerial-wolf hunting camos. She holds a rifle in her free hand. The two stand atop a polar bear skin rug with the Ten Commandments hanging on the wall of the Oval Office across from a moose head and a model offshore oil drilling station with "Drill Baby Drill" written on its base.
In the fire place, of course, is the Constitution.

I supported Hillary Clinton and was deeply saddened when she lost. I'm a life-long Democrat, so I planned to vote for Obama and Biden. Then I saw Obama make fun of Sarah Palin, calling her a pig and challenging her experience, even though she has more experience than he has. Or should I say, "than He has"? This year, for the first times in our lives, my husband and I are voting Republican.
Well Denise Boyle...you and your hubby are complete morons!!!
I would not call you a moron, but you must not have seen what was actually being said. He was talking about the Bush/McCain policies being more of the same. I guess that lipstick now equals Palin. This reflects such simple minded thinking. I now believe that all these McCain/Palin supporters are very wealthy people because only a rich person could vote for the same old economic policies. Thanks. Some of us are losing our homes and some of us believe that the government should stay out of our Dr. Office. You have what you want so the heck with the rest of us.
Anyone who doesn't recognize "Denise Boyle" as a con artist of the keyboard doesn't know Dirty Politics 101. Pretending to be a new convert is one of the oldest tricks in the book.
The repugs do love to express their faux outrage as "lifelong democrats" at some made up slight by the Obama campaign.
I, as a Hillary supporter, laugh when I hear the governor talk about Hillary's grit, determination and grace. She no more kept up with the democratic primaries then those wolves she allows to be hunted from planes. Just more cynical tricks to try to peel of Hillary voters.
Ms Boyle, you are either ill informed or intentionally choose to ignore the context in which the pig comment was made. I suspect the latter. Perhaps you are just a provacator. Enjoying a little stirring of the pot. With the economy tanking, millions unable to afford health care, most of our kids receiving a second rate education and much of the world wondering what happened to the America they used to respect and love, you choose to vote for a ticket that will take us backward not forward. Your disrespect your fellow citizens. It is one thing to firmly believe in what the Republican Party stands for and quite another to be one who votes against their self interest in a fit of pique.
Wow, how low can the McCain campaign go. "Denise Boyle" sounds like a troll. I have seen several of these kinds of posts recently on different blogs, and I sincerely believe that it's another sleazy Rove-ian tactic. All these supposed Hillary Clinton supporters vowing to vote for McCain/Palin for these kinds of ridiculous reasons that have nothing to do with the very real issues facing our country, hell, facing our world. People are losing their jobs, people are losing their homes, even their life savings, there's the threat of of an endless war escalating in the Middle East, the dollar has become Monopoly money, the American Empire is crumbling before our eyes -- and these supposed Hillary Clinton supporters are vowing to vote for McCain because of some implied insult towards Sarah Palin? I really don't think the kinds of women who voted for Hillary Clinton are the kinds of women who would ignore the very real problems the next president has to grapple with, and vote for an old man whose big accomplishment seems to be he survived 5 yrs being a POW and a woman who is completely ignorant about the world beyond Alaska. Just as McCain insulted Mrs. Clinton, a woman of great intelligence and accomplishments, by selecting a lightweight like Sarah Palin as his running mate in an attempt to get women's votes, but so is whoever is masterminding this kind of slimy internet trolling insulting Mrs. Clinton by suggesting that her supporters would switch their allegiance to Sarah Palin from Mrs. Clinton. The two have absolutely nothing in common, and frankly, I want the first woman President or VP to be a woman of stature who actually can do the job, not somebody who is blatantly unqualified for this position.
And you are ridiculous and a fool and are fighting against everything Hillary Clinton stood for. Sarah Palin is going to help McCain unravel everything women have struggled to obtain for the last hundreds of years! Do not be fooled!
First thing is lets all remember who was in power when 9/11 happened. I also was a huge Clinton supporter, and I was at first going to vote republican because I felt Hillary had been done very wrong by the media and by Obama saying the Clinton's were racists. Now that time has gone by, we must look at the TRUE and REAL situation we are in. We can not afford more of the same republican beliefs shoved down our throats.
We need serious change, and I dont mean just a slightly different Republican president. I mean REAL change in the direction we are going.
Any one who says that they are voting republican because Hillary lost is a FOOL! THINK......seriously THINK about how much of a different direction this country needs and then ask your self if you want 4 more years of BUSH?
If any person votes for any candidate for any reason at all, I say kudos to them. At least they plan to get off their fat a*ss*es and exercise their right to be heard. We all need to VOTE our beliefs or accept that we are full of sound and fury, signifiying nothing! (Apologies to Wm. Shakespeare).
Denise , wow , I hope you are kidding ? First Obama was not making fun , and If you are basing your vote on that alone , then please , just move to another country . Whay is it that even the British news papers calling us "stupid " now ? they , along with every one else (who has common sense) knows Shara Palin is a joke , and the worst canidate in our history , when she can make Bush look smart , there is a problem . Our country is in the worst condition it ever has been in history , and you would want Mccain ( a Bush member , war monger ) and a beauty queen from a state that has more raindeer than people to have access to the button ! And , more experience than Obama , PLEASE, this woman had no idea what the bail out was , and can't even name a supreem court case . You can't call yourself a democrat if you are willing to doom our country because your feelings were hurt , I am glad your going to their side then , they will loose anyway , how old are you, grow up .
