Obama Warns Tarantino: 'They Will Bamboozle You'

On stage in front of a "change" banner at a fund-raiser at the Avalon club in Hollywood, Barack Obama reprised his his ‘bamboozled” line last night for an audience that included celebrities. (Quentin Tarantino!).
“It’s the typical response against a movement for change," he said. “[It] happens, by the way, every time. It’s fascinating, you know, Bill Clinton was confronted with the same stuff back in the 90s. And now, you know, things go full circle.”
“So there is the usual. You pluck out one sentence somebody said a while back and you run an ad saying they flip-flopped. Or, you know, try to distort a position and try to say that you are a supporter of Ronald Reagan’s. Or you find a quote out of the 4,000 you made and you say you’re a radical and a follower of Mao. Or you’re not black enough, or it turns out you’re too black,” Obama said.
“There is always some reason that they will try to convince you not to believe what you feel in your gut. They will try to bamboozle you, and hoodwink you, run the okey-doke on you.”
Obama has employed this line—which to some observers evokes one of the better-known speeches of Malcolm X—in the past to argue that the "status quo" is working to quell the "forces of change." Quentin Tarantino hooted and applauded when he said it.

I am a moderate Democrat but I am enthusiastically supporting Barack Obama because I believe he will bring about the changes our nation so badly needs by reaching across the aisle and working with members of both parties. The bitter partisanship in Congress is making it impossible to get reforms in healthcare, the environment, immigration and our foreign policy. Hillary Clinton has ran a nasty, mean-spirted campaign against Obama, full of mud-slingling, character assassination and the politics of personal destruction. As President she and her husband will make the presidencies of Richard Nixon and George W. Bush pale in comparison when it comes their vindictiveness, secretiveness and wanting to get back at their enemies.
America has too many problems that need to be resolved and they never will be resolved if we demonize those who disagree with us. Obama has proven he can work with those whose views don't always equal his in a way to find common ground and get meaningful legislation passed that will benefit all Americans. He will hold true to his beliefs but will still be able to get majorities to pass legislation because of the type of leader he is.
We don't need more partisanship in Congress, we need less. We don't need more lies, more mud slinging, and more dirty campaigning. Nixon is long gone, and Bush will soon be gone. If revenge and getting back at the Republicans is your motive, then vote for Hillary Clinton. If progress and change and laws protecting our environment, extending healthcare to more of our citizens, a fair and decent immigration policy, and a foreign policy that will restore American values without making us a pariah in the world is what you want, then you have one clear choice: Barack Obama.
Your are correct. The future belong to the young people.
Obama is a bridge builder and I think he will get things done...Your are right about revenge and the best person is Obama.Let us make a new day and change this course of our country.
Right on!
But I thought the platform of the Democratic party was vindictiveness?
Just make sure you vote everybody... and get your friends out, too!
Would this guy even be running if he was white? Oh yeah, maybe so... Edwards.
ironically, I've heard him (Obama) do the same thing. He's very good at it too. Tell me how he's different and why he's qualified to be the leader of the free world after a short stint in the Senate and I might vote for him. So far he's scoring goose eggs with me.
Anonymous: Go visit BarackObama.com and see the issues section. He does speak to issues. Did you watch the debate on Thursday with respect to his health care platform, stance on the war etc.? He has more years of experience as an elected official as his counterpart but brings youth and inspiration that others do not.
Finally, to be the leader of the free world you must inspire trust and loyalty with the same. Barack has done that. I write this from abroad where I can tell you many gather together to watch Obama.
Republicans and the Clinton's will have a hard time bringing the "world" as it were back to the table. Obama can. And that makes all the difference.
I wish I could decide between Hil and Barack; I generally think B is too young and has not IDEA what will hit him if we becomed president, whereas Hillary will at least know the s**t she is stepping into.
On the other hand, it might be nice to have a President who has a fresh view.
Bu then I worry the status quo will simply roll Barak over; he is very young and very inexperienced. On the other hand, 4 years of Hillary makes me tired. I saw Bill on TV in Denver and he still "had it" but she looks... tired. As is she is chasing an unconscious goal. In my heart I can't believe she really WANTS to be president.
So I don't know. However, I live in a Montana and my vote in the primary won't really count b/c we're not a super tuesday state. It will be interesting to see what happens. The bottom line is that ANYONE is going to be better than George Bush, who has taken this country back 50 years....
I'm a democrat. If Hillary is the nominee, I am voting for McCaine. Period.
Why is this a warning specifically to Tarantino? He is identified as one person in the audience.
I am a democratic voter, and if John McCain becomes the republican nominee I'm going to be ROTFLMAO. The only person who could serve the failed policies of the current administration more reliably is George W. Bush.
After the Bush campaign slandered John McCain and his family in the republican primaries, it turned my stomach to see McCain hug GWB. America does not need a leader who is obsequious.
Is it really the Young people that knows best... sorry, these "young people" have not spoken up against this war in 7 years... they are the most self centered group of "Young people" I have ever seen. As a young person of the 60's ... we were all very involved. I know what they are concerned about... their student loans, abortion rights, that's about it. They are not informed. I have listened to these Young people of today.... and they are so shallow. To me, as a n adult, Hope is an illusive word.... I hope it doesn't rain... I hope I can find a job, I hope I can pay my rent this month... blah blah blah. Once the fad of this election is over, they will go back to school and forget about anything "political". Would rather just go get drunk... a whole lot more fun.
This is a time to listen to experience. Let the youth.... spend a little more time studying the issues and then I might be willing to "listen" to their voice! My voice of experience says Hillary Clinton is their best bet for real change in America.
