Councilmember Tony Avella has the support of many people. He is against over development and for honest government ... something that is rare in this day and age. He has the courage to take on corrupt Speaker Quinn. He has sponsored legislation for pets and housing and for abolishing the inhumane carriage horse industry. He is sponsoring legislation to keep term limits while other do nothing council members like Oliver Koppell are whining that it should not be up to the people.

The one thing he does not have is the support and donations of the real estate industry -- the other silent but powerful voice in city government -- the real estate lobbyists who support and pull Christine Quinn's strings and have turned Anthony Weiner's head (he is now accepting $ from the real estate industry.

Get real people -- Tony Avella is smart, courageous and is his own man. How many other City Council members can say the same thing?! All the other potential candidates take money from the real estate industry and will continue to allow our neighborhoods - both those in which we live and work - to be the victims of more and more over development, which only benefits the developer - not people who need reasonably priced housing -- or the mom and pop stores that have to close shop.

But people unfortunately get the government they deserve, which means they vote against their own self interests because they do not know better. This is why we have suffered through one of the worst eight year periods in our history with one of the most unpopular presidents; why people come out to see Sarah Palin because she is pretty and a woman without really knowing or understanding what she stands for. This is why we finished up the Clinton administration a budget surplus and currently have a multi trillion dollar dept; why in NYC - electing megalomanics who have no sensitivity to people or animals - have contributed to the current financial mess.
