Fossella's Arrest and Recchia's Plans

via council.nyc.gov

Here's something counterintuitive. Amid all the jockeying for Vito Fossella's seat, City Hall News reports that the best-funded candidate in the race, City Councilman Domenic Recchia of Brooklyn, who was challenging Fossella long before the congressman was arrested, called "at least one elected official" and discussed dropping out.

From CHN:

The morning that news broke of Rep. Vito Fossella's (R-Staten Island/Brooklyn) DWI arrest in Arlington, Va., two weeks ago, Council Member Domenic Recchia (D-Brooklyn) called at least one elected official from the district about dropping out of his bid to unseat the incumbent, according to a source familiar with the conversation.

However, Recchia denied that he had ever wavered in his interest in going to Congress.

“Domenic Recchia is still in this race. Domenic Recchia is fighting hard and Domenic Recchia is raising money,” he said, describing himself.

which elected officials are "from the district"? does it mean from his council district or from the congressional district?

Mr. Recchia really doesn't have any "People" backing him. He does have the Brooklyn Political bosses. But that's not enough. Also his friend Senator Diane Savino, who backing him, said " all is fair in politics"...her dream position would be to go to Congress..now that Vito may drop out, she "stabbed" Mr. Recchia in the back, put herself up for the running. Well, Mr. Recchia, you have "stabbed" many people in the back , both constituents & politicians... it's the old saying "what goes around , comes around." And it has come around to you.

Maybe he's caught up in the "slush fund" scandal. Who knows?

Recchia is just about totally unknown on Staten Island so despite all his money which was from developers and cronies he'd have to spend much of it to become known by Staten Islanders. Additionally, he's done very, very little on SI to get his name out there and even though he says he's been to the Ferry, nobody has seen him there.

Also, this is not the race Recchia really wants to be in, he wants to run for BP in Brooklyn.

It really is stunning how Steve Harrison's supporters devote all of their time to slandering the good name of a respected and succesfull city councilman. I guess its becuase their candidate has never held public office, has no record, no accomplishments, no fundraising ability and negligible name recognition.

And no, Domenic Recchia isn't "mixed up" in the "slush fund scandal." He is among the most honest and hard working members of the City Council. Any fool who posts on this blog under an annonymous name and claims otherwise is nothing more than an uninformed coward.

So...5:00 PM... if you're not a coward, why are you posting anonymously. You are a phony, a fake & a fruad , just like Councilman Dum Recchia. And by the way there are alot things going on in his district that would make your head spin, you defintely wouldn't feel that way about Councilman Dum Recchia. He's going to pull out of the congressional race by the end of June, if not sooner.

just noticed that 5:58 is also posting anonymously.

Obviously Recchia decided it was viable to run in a 75% Staten Island seat because there was no Isalnder in the race. With such an entry seemingly immenent, only an imbecile wouldn't carefully wegh his options.

Which I guess is why Harrison is going full speed ahead.

To the 5:00 PM post..Here's Councilman Recchia's great record for his Community and Ratings by his constituents: Stopping overdevelopment "F"....creating affordable housing "F"...Keeping Coney Island/ Brighton Beach Clean..."F"...Creating Jobs in Coney Island..."F"....Paying his wife $6,000 rent from tax payers' monies in the 2005 Council Race.."A"..Knucklhead 2006 Award from the Daily News..."A"..Voting for Congestion Pricing Tax.."A".. etc. etc. ect. Kissing up to Joe Sitt of Thor Equities ..."A", the big one ETHICS...."F". He's a total disaster & selfserving political HACK. Thank God for term limits.

Why is it that all this guy ever says in any interview is that he's "raising money?" Money isn't everything. Nobody knows where he is on the issues, he refuses to attend forums unless they're secret ones like that one held at the Gaeta Club on SI where Sollozzo had to come to his defense. He's a blank on the issues, can't hold his own in a debate, doesn't like to take questions (and gets defensive) from any club members and that's when he even shows up at these forums, is in the pocket of developers, totally unknown on SI but wait, he can raise money.

Yep, Harrison is the clear front runner.

That is, if the only voters are those who blog.

Oh course, if that were true, he would have beat Fossella last time.

He's a loser. LOSER LOSER!!!!
