Schumer Makes the Case for Obama-Clinton '08

Eliot Brown passes on a couple of Chuck Schumer quotes from a Crain's breakfast today at the Grand Hyatt in Midtown:
On the viability of an Obama/Clinton ticket: “At first I thought it wasn’t but I do think it could be.”
On voters: “They’re worried, and they want somebody to come in and say I can help a little bit you with healthcare, and paying for college, and all these things, and a Democratic candidate is more likely to do it. Hillary and Barack have both run very strong and great races, and I think they’d be a strong ticket together.”
Hillary has ruined any chance she might run as vice president. Also, should we really give Bill Clinton the keys to the White House again? In commenting on Hillary as VP, David Gergen said it well, "Barack would have to get a food taster."
Uh-oh. Chuck sees his influence flashing before his eyes. Time to get right with Obama.
Seriously, though, Clinton's grotesque comments to USA Today last week should have effectively scuttled her chance at the VP slot. She had a narrow window to apologize, but opted to let them stand. The way the Clintons are trying to incite class warfare and be cute with racial politics is deplorable. Sen. Schumer should know better and call on his colleague to exit the race with whatever grace she has left.
Hillary and Bill are a team and nobody can envision them in the White House in a supporting role. If I were Schumer and wanted to help Clinton, I'd advise her to start worrying about being re-elected in New York. She's burned quite a few bridges during this campaign.
The Clintons are not going to exit gracefully. Now that there's not a chance in hell for Hellary to get the nomination she wants the VP, anything to look like a winner.
Bill is campaigning his heart out with 5 to 6 events a day!
They are desperate not to lose.
And what is most scary is, is that they may have a chance to win, of course winning to them is stealing!

Chuck - If Hillary has run such a strong campaign, how come she's losing? She's run a terrible campaign, strategically and, more importantantly, sustantively. Did you read her hard working white Americans remarks? You better watch your own tail. New Yorker don't take well to that kind of racial exploitation, or the people who defend it. Why would we reward her terrible campiagning with the VP slot? As it is, her words will be McCain's best ammunition against Obama. She cares nothing for the party and only for herself. SNL got it right the other night.
Sorry Chuckie, but no sale. She has no coattails, brings only negativity to the table, and will be a drag on the ticket. That wretched horse you chose to bet on is not a winner. And she will definately be put out to pasture in 2012.
Honestly, I would've loved to give Hillary the benefit of the doubt and embraced an Obama-Clinton ticket. But I've given Hillary the benefit of the doubt too many times and she's puked in my face.
The problem is not her capabilities or her fortitude or even her high negatives. The problem is TRUST - she's been very inconsistent, she sends a lot of mixed messages and I'm trying hard but she gives me ABSOLUTELY no reason to trust her.
What people have praised as tenacity on her part, but which I see as clinging to the throne, reveals a very disturbing trait - that she will do ANYTHING to become president. As long as these fears are there, most people will reject an Obama-Clinton ticket.
Oh, you've GOTTA be kidding....her "campaign" is getting weirder and weirder.
If Obama gets the nomination for the most powerful position in the world, he should determine who can best help in that endeavor.
It sounds more like another "cling to the throne" tactic.
And, I hate to say this, but if she were a running mate, what would they do with Bill. He's wanting to relive his glory days and he'll need an office to do that.
Chuck Schumer needs to use his brain and belittle Hillary for the pathetic, divisive, racist campaign she ran. She doesn't deserve consideration as veep. Who wants her a heartbeat away from the presidency. Then we would have to worry that Obama would commit suicide, ala Vince Foster!!!

Hillary forgets, where she is senator has a pretty large african american populaion. Bills's offices are also in Harlem so she better look at the big picture in terms of re-election and stop with all the race stuff. If African Americans do not vote for her, she is done in NY.
In January I would have said - YES, a shared ticket would be great.
But after watching the Clinton campaign, I can't quite see it any more.
Can you imagine Obama having a racist as a VP?
On voters: They're worried alright. . . that she might try to STEAL this nomination, that Obama supporters will end up paying "MARK PENN" his stagering debt with a back door deal, and that the clintons will end up with a "wink, wink" offer of support in an attempt to have healing and unity in the Dem Party. After all the Rovian tactics, race-baiting, nasty and mean 'political lynching' they have tried on a member of their "supposed" own Party, absolutely right Chuck, the voters are very worried! Shumer lost his credibility with this one and is now battling like crazy to save something for himself and his good friend. Now, he'll have to take her back in NY which may be the real reason he's squirming, she may block his political future. Sorry Chuck, she's all yours.
As for Hillary as a running mate, it just won't happen. She's run a much too divisive race but more importantly she represents everything that Obama is running against. He would lose his authenticity and his message if he had her on the ticket. There are other candidates who can bring similar benefits to the ticket without the division. Finally, the Republicans would have a buffet with all of the Clinton baggage as well as anything new that Obama is bringing to the table such as Rev. Wright. Sorry, too many negatives for Hill/Bill.
