Spitzer Talks Big on Education, Sharpton Pitches Spitzer on Black Appointment

Eliot Spitzer said he would put "more money into education than any governor or lieutenant governor [in New York's history]” during his speech at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Public Policy Forum at the Harlem headquarters of Al Sharpton’s National Action Network today.
The statement was a preemptive response to critics of his anticipated budget plan, which will not give as much money to education as the governor had previously pledged.
Spitzer was still on stage when Sharpton made his own pitch to the governor.
Sharpton, who has not endorsed a candidate for President, said that if Hillary Clinton wins the White House, he wanted to "strongly suggest a black [appointee] to fill the U.S. Senate seat.”
The audience applauded, and Spitzer, smiling, left the stage.
Outside, Spitzer, still smiling, told me it was "way, way, way premature to worry about that."
