Bouncer Killed in Southampton's First Murder in 20 Years
Yet another grim hallmark of Manhattan nightlife has made its way out to Long Island for the summer: Andrew Reister, 40, a Suffolk County Corrections officer moonlighting as a bouncer at Southampton's Southampton Publick House, died Saturday morning from injuries he sustained during a fight with Anthony Oddone, a 25-year-old caddy at the exclusive Bridge golf course in Bridgehampton. The incident—Southampton's first murder in 20 years—stemmed from a dispute on Wednesday night in which Reister reportedly asked a drunk Oddone to stop dancing on the barroom's tables. Oddone wrested the officer to the ground before placing him in a headlock and then attempting to flee the scene in a cab. Oddone will likely be charged with second degree murder.

No murder in twenty years? What about Ted Ammon. He was killed in 2001. The Priest that was murdered by a drunk driver? I just wanted to correct you...
the guy should just be put to death he took a life his should be taken too
So sad...Oddone should be charged with first degree
To Anonymous #1 - Wrong Hamptons villages. This horrible happening is, indeed, the first murder in the Village of Southampton in 20 years.
Hey,
There is a difference between the Town of Southampton and the Village of Southampton. They are seperate legal entities. The Town consists of Westhampton, Hampton Bays, Noyac, Remsenberg, and a few other hamlets. Everything between the Towns of Brookhaven and East Hampton.
The Village of SH consists of itself.
Most people wouldn't know this stuff.
Matt
As a wife of a Suffolk Correction Officer, I feel compelled to bring a reality to this horrific tragedy. It is bad enough that these Officers have a dangerous and thankless job, but to be working without a contract for over 5 years is inexcusable. Why do these Officers have to work second and third jobs to support their families and keep up with the rising cost of living? How many others have to suffer before they get the respect they so dearly deserve? My deepest sympathies to the Reister family as Andrew Reister will always be remembered as a Hero.
I agree with you 100%. I tried to say this on Topix the day this happened and got attacked by posters. People just don't get it unless they live it. All CO's are not bad and Andrew was definitely one of the best. Anyway, prayers out to the Reistere family.
Some of the people on Topix are ignorant. As wives of COs, we need to make evryone aware that these men and womwn are not "mucle heads", but loving Spouses and Fathers and/or Mothers. They need RESPECT as it takes an extraordinary person to do this job day in and day out!
Should have got himself a diffrent line of work. He liked being in charge. This time he lost.....
Some of the Bad Guys who respected him cant wait to meet you KELL.
GOOD LUCK !!!
