Reichl gets grilled “I think we have a really incredible lineup of people this year, which makes me very happy,” Gourmet editor Ruth Reichl wrote to us in an e-mail the other day, of her magazine’s “Gourmet Institute,” some kind of symposium that begins tonight with a feast at the New York Public Library and continues through a weekend of cooking demos and seminars—i.e., your latest chance to cushion stock market woes with a large plate of truffled mac & cheese. Splat! “We’ve got Grant Achatz coming from Chicago and Nancy Silverton from Los Angeles,” Ms. Reichl continued—no idea who those people are, but cool! “And I love doing the ‘Ask Ruth’ segment. … It’s something we instituted last year, and it’s such fun to spend time one-on-one with readers, finding out what they’re most passionate about right now.” That would be Haagen-Dazs, for us. But as for the former Times critic: “I’m over the moon about the food at Convivio”—the shmancy new Tudor City den of gluttony.
