City Room Heath Ledger Post: 1.78 Million Page Views
The City Room's post authored by Sewell Chan on the death of Heath Ledger has reached 1.78 million page views, a spokeswoman said. The Times can't confirm whether it's an all-time record for a nytimes.com blog post, but it's probably awfully close. Editor Jonathan Landman wrote in an e-mail this morning:
By the end of the evening, the blog post on Ledger had collected more than 1.5 million page views. That's a little less than City Room – a very popular blog even at slow times – gets in a normal month. A number roughly equal to the Sunday circulation of the print paper. A lot of traffic.
That email was time-stamped at 3:08 a.m. In the 13 hours since, the traffic has only increased, even though the story was last updated at 10:17 p.m. on Tuesday.
This reflects the breadth of interest in Heath Ledger. A lot of people who roll their eyes at most celebrity news felt a connection to him based on some of his performances, especially "Brokeback Mountain." This was the rare celebrity I was rooting for; it's sad.

I cant believe how rude so many people can be. A life is gone and all you can think is of awful things. This man was somebody's Son, Father, Brother, Uncle, Best Friend, etc. He was overworked doing the Joker and it messed with his mind. He couldn't sleep, so his doctor gave him sleeping pills which obviously were not working. Then him and his wife divorce, she takes the child to another set to make her movie, he misses his baby so much and never got to see her over X-mas or New Years. Over no sleep which will cause him anxiety and missing his daughter he loved so much causing him even more depression. He had medications for all that stuff. The pain killers were most likely for his head from so much tension. I know i had a severe tension headache and ended up in the hospital and getting shots, they said the medication was stronger than morphine but did not tell me what it was. This man was exhausted from so much work, missing his baby, divorced from his wife, etc. Not to mention people calling him Rainbow Brite, etc. because of the outfit he wore, which if anyone takes the time to look, that outfit was from his work on filming his new movie that was to release in 2009. But the media did NOT take the time to look as alls they want to do is publish any photo possible to make a dollar. This was a man who truly loved living life and did not care about what people thought of him or his clothes, etc. He was not in it for the money. He did it because he loved being an actor. He chose his roles. He turned down several roles because he didn't want to take a job he didn't want and someone else may have loved to enjoy. If anything this man was an idol to look up to. Playing hide and seek in the restaurant he went to in the bushes with his daughter. Just coming in on his skateboard to say hi. Reading his book while having his daily meal and giving a smile and a peace sign when finished. Was not on Drugs, it would have shown and they said he was clean. And as for the $20 bill, i too roll up $20 bills and slip them in my shirt pockets or what ever when going to town, etc. A lot of people roll their bills and do not se them for drugs. I know several people who do. The media just kept up because they were wanting more attention and money for their normal garbage they do. They tried to dig up dirt on him after his passing as they usually do to actors, but could not find even ONE THING bad about this man. Media always trying to dig up dirt on people when they pass and aren't able to protect themselves... He truly was a one of a kind human being. I appraise him for being such an honorable, kind, loving and caring person. You people should be ashamed of yourselves. And just because he banked money for his roles he did accept doesn't have anything to do with anything. It doesn't matter if your poor or rich. Everyone has daily problems in their life. And as for his doctors having him on so many prescriptions they should NOT have been mixed i sure hope his family sues them SOB's who only want money, money, money and will prescribe anything to earn a buck. Him not being able to sleep and the pills not working, etc. They should have let him stay in the hospital and gave him sleeping medications there and keep and eye to see if that would help him. Pills are not the answer to everything. And just because he was an actor does not mean he should have known about mixing pills. His doctor/pharmacist probably did not even explain anything to him. I know i ALWAYS have to ask for a pamphlet to read. And if i do not agree, i will not take the medication and ask for something else. This man's daughter will never get to know him because some stupid dumb-assed doctors didn't want to take the time, only money to help him. He will not get to watch her grow up or walk her down the aisle etc. because of this garbage of doctors not keeping track of what they are doing. And as for the masseuse she should go to jail. I mean come on, she knew he wasn't breathing and it took her 45 minutes to call 911, GIVE ME A BREAK! He was alive at 1:30 when the house keeper was there. Not breathing at 2:30 when the masseuse got there. If she would have called 911 ASAP he may have been able to be revived... But she did not call them to almost 3:30 !!!! I mean come on, what is this crap! She should be imprisoned for this. No one will ever know if he could have been saved because of that bimbo! I mean calling Mary Kate could have waited till she called 911 ... I hope she rots in H-E-Double Hockey Sticks... I loved watching this actor in almost every movie he ever made. And i always believed he was a good person. And know after all the stuff posted about him and news not even being able to find 1 thing about him, i now know i was right. He truly was an amazing person. What father do you know would decorate the child's room exactly the same in both mothers and fathers home? What father do you know who will play hide and seek with their child in the restaurants, etc? You people are trying to find something bad about this person instead of praising him for all the good he had done. You should truly be ashamed... I hope they finish his last movie that is to come out in 2009 and dedicate it to his memory. R.I.P. HAL and God Bless You!!! May you rest in peace.
