Vallone Games Out the Bloomberg Presidential Run

Here’s what Democratic City Councilman Peter Vallone Jr., who already flirted with the idea of supporting a Bloomberg presidential bid, said during a taping of NBC's News Forum this morning:

"I think they are very seriously looking at this. Here's their problem. They can get on the ballot, money can do that for you, and he's a great candidate, so that can do that. The problem is, with three candidates in the race, it's very likely that nobody gets majority of the electoral vote. Then what happens? It gets very confusing. It's only happened once before in history. It goes to the Congress, and now the Congress picks the president. So as we all know, the Congress is Democrat-Republican. How do you get the Congress to go for an independent? That's their quandary right now. That's what they're trying to figure out."

The interview airs Sunday.

What? It only goes to the House if there's an actual tie in the electoral college. And right now, there's a pretty good Dem margin in the House. Bill Clinton didn't have a majority in 1992 because it was a 3-way race. This doesn't make any sense. Saying that, I'd prefer Bloomberg to stay out of the race unless it's Huckabee-Hillary. Then, he's got my vote.

Gnopple (not verified) says:

Nevermind. I was wrong about that. If someone doesn't get 270 electoral votes, it would go to the House.

Bloomberg is what we get for fielding this absurd bunch of yahoos. Huckabee for president? Are you out of your minds? Isn't one born again evangelical fundamentalist president enough? Bloomberg/Hagel will give a good, balanced ticket, and will take power, much needed, out of the loudmouths on both the far left and right.

Assemblyman Michael Benjamin (not verified) says:

What makes Vallone think Bloomberg would win any State? Electoral votes are awarded on a "winner-take-all" basis, not apportioned by popular vote. If that were the case, President Gore would be in his final year (sans Oscar award and Nobel Prize).
