Nerd princes Weezer--whose recent video for their new single “Pork and Beans” features lip-syncs from YouTube luminaries such as Britney Spears champion Chris Crocker, synth-and-shoe-loving Liam Kyle Sullivan and incoherent teen beauty queen Lauren Caitlin Upton, among others—will continue their populist quest with a just-announced Hootenanny Tour, Pitchfork reports via MTV.com. The “four or five”-day West Coast jaunt will commence in Phoenix, Arizona (venue information is not yet available) on June 16th. In a video interview with Tay Zonday (of the “Chocolate Rain” fame) posted to MTV.com, frontman Rivers Cuomo revealed, "We're going to go on a tour. It's called the Hootenanny Tour, and it's coming to your town in June. We're gonna bring ourselves and invite a bunch of Weezer fans down to bring their instruments and, uh, jam with us. I don't know, 100, 200 people, whatever. Everyone come down and bring an instrument -- whatever you can play -- and we'll jam out on our songs." Attendees are encouraged to wear sunglasses to shield their eyes from the glare of summer sunlight hitting a couple hundred pallid Guitar Hero addicts.
