Bedroom with Bathroom! Near the L! Just $550!

Bedroom with Bathroom! Near the L! Just $550!

This Williamsburg rental listing on Craigslist would make even the bed-bug, hipster-infested hovel McKibben Lofts feel luxe.

For $550 a month, you can live in a 10x6 room that is "not an apartment," on North 7th and Bedford Avenue in the heart of Brooklyn hipsterdom, just a half-block from the L train.

"Location is what sells here," says the listing.

There certainly isn't much else to buy in this glorified closet. It has no kitchen, no windows, no roomates are allowed, and there is "no wall to separate the bathroom and room."

Though the listing boasts a "private bathroom," let's dispense with the euphemisms. It's a toilet, a mattress, and a mini-fridge. Home sweet home.

That's a lot of money for a Flushing Apt on shit avenue. It's not park your butt avenue, but it is a screw job.

Bill Peters (not verified) says:

This apt really gives new meaning to the term shit hole. The prices on even low class apts in NY city are really stinkers even if you have to eat on the shitter. I rather live in the toilet at Mickie D's.

Bill Peters (not verified) says:

I thought that a fridge and a built in toilet are pretty good, but the fridge is right on top of the outhouse and the mattress is right on top of the shithouse. This makes the rents on Park Avenue look reasonable by comparison. The real estate market out here really is full of poop.

I really thought I had seen it all in the NY real estate market. I have sold real estate here for three decades. This has to be the epitome of the economy hitting the shitter. It really is a total stinker. The pride of New York City. Come live in a toilet. A toilet with a view. Bend over and enjoy the view of the end, the rear end.

Tim Ber (not verified) says:

Look at the situation here. A toilet, a fridge and a mattress. All that is missing is the mazola oil for the completion. The price of getting screwed in NY City is going up. Guess the oil crisis is affecting real estate, you get screwed without the lube.

For that price does it come with toilet paper and tampons?
The outhouse should at least come with butt wipe and cooze strips....after all it is Brooklyn. Got to have the cheeze wiz.... and the tp....to go with the accomodations.

No body deserves to live in a toilet--these people must be Trinis--tried to do it to me--fuck off

I believe that renting an apartment without a window is illegal. It is very dangerous.

It wouldn't be bad if the toilet was a liitle more stylish.

Sally Quinn (not verified) says:

My question is: who the f*ck wants to live in Brooklyn anyway?

The L train??!! It's an open sewer with nothing but rabble riders.

Die Brooklyn citizens.

That can't be legal, you can't live in an extremely small 10x6 room with a toilet, bed, and fridge and NO windows. There is no way air can circulate and that has to be very unsanitary. Who would pay to live like this it kinda looks like a prison cell. Shame on you for trying to rent this awful excuse of living space!!!!!!!!!!!!

My mom charged me half that amount to stay in my bedroom when I got a job and my room was twice the size, it had 2 windows and the bathroom was down the hall. Maybe this sucker of a renter - yes it has been rented - should talk to my mom instead.

Please please please tell me the buildng department has sent an inspector over and the landlord is being fined for renting this death trap. How can someone blatantly defy the law in such a public manner and hope to get away with it? I think you've done the unthinkable and found a sign more ominous than Sarah Palin that the end of the world is near.
