Introducing, Quinn's Team
In a brief respite from the fired council staffers, here is a list of Christine Quinn's new hires:
Elizabeth Fine, General Counsel -worked in the Clinton White House
Kevin Wardally, Deputy Chief of Staff -former senior political advisor to Gifford Miller
Maura Keaney, Deputy Chief of Staff -ran GOTV operations for Mike's re-election
Ululy Martinez, Deputy Chief of Staff -former counsel to Jose Rivera
Rob Newman, Legislative Director -Council staffer since 1999
Lucy Mayo, Policy Director -once worked for Quinn's old boss, Tom Duane
Maria Alvarado, Press Secretary -council staffer since 2003 and worked on Miller's campaign
-Azi Paybarah

rumors abound that another Hillary staffer will be joining in high level Speaker Quinn position...
Fine's husband directs the Brennan center. So much for laid off staffers going to them for advice...
When will there be an end to patronage politics? Favors and favoritism to underqualified and soon to be overpaid people who cut deals.
So it can safely be assumed that no matter how incompetent the city council is as a legislative body, the brennan center will be hard pressed to critique it. Bruno and Silver should've hired her.
you aint seen nothin yet folks. collect those petitions, help your district leaders and local candidates, do the clubhouse shuffle if you wanna get ahead.
after the reign of mayor mike we're gonna take the tweed building back too.

This is interesting stuff - can we also have some postings on who the Mayor is hiring? Between him and the council there's a huge change.
So what is Chris Quinn running for next?
I assume the people let go had been hired after a national search conducted by a head hunting firm among non-political muliti-cultual graduates of the leading universities.
Good point Yoda.
Also, when was someone who worked in the White House ever seen as underqualified?
Her "hacks" seem to be pretty well qualified.
Not the point Yoda. Quinn's another fake reformer. People who have been working there for 18 years lost their livelihood's so that their jobs could be given away to Manton's dead weight. They were herded into a room and treated like garbage by someone pretending to be a champion of workers' rights. The bosses' votes were bought and paid for by her with taxpayer-funded jobs.
Alice, You really must be in Wonderland if you think that White Houses aren't filled with many unqualified hacks. Just look at the current administration. It's not the first one to fill many jobs with politically-connected dead weight.
The list of new hires/promotions represents a sad picture of how Quinn is filling up the hole left by the firings with campaign people. All at the expense of my tax dollars.
Were Jeremy Hoffman and David Pristin promoted as I've heard? If so, why aren't they on the list?
I also hear that Wayne is in charge of the hirings (those sent by the bosses). Can anyone explain what are his qualifications other than being Quinn's friend (word is he had no qualifications to work at the Council before he was hired by Quinn (through Miller). Or is it that Wayne is just going through the motions since the decisions have already been made? Very likely.
How about Jeremy Hoffman and David Pristin, were they promoted as I've heard? why aren't they on the list?
Two entities should be more of blame for the firings of Sixty-one (61) people from the NYC Council's Central staff last week, February 17th, 2006 and the previous NYC Central staff firing of 200 on Valentine's Day 2002. Blame Ronald Lauder, a disgrunted millionaire who can't win the New York Mayoralty for endorsing the Term limits Propositionand the majority of New York City voters who voted "Yes" for Term Limits. Remember this quote, "Think twice before you vote what you consider nice." Since Ronald Lauder is a charitable man, he should immediately give employment to NYC Council Central Staff persons that were terminated.
Wayne Kawadler has no official role, other than standing next to Chris. He hasn't had any purpose at the City Council since he left his prestigeous position as director of the now-defunct investigations..
Why do people think that all whom works for a legislative body be it Federal, State or City, are incompetent or lack skills or other qualifications. This is totally untrue.
And please don't sterotype people that way. In every facet of workforce be it Political, private or so on, there tend to be good and bad people.
12:58
Get real.
12:56, Why did he leave Gioia's Committee? Could that be the source of the bad blood?
Sure, "trace them back to their computers" and FOREVER gain a seat in Chucky's list and Her Ax (you don't necessarily need to be employed by the Council to be chopped up by the Speaker)
"Attacked"? who?
Or is this the case of a conscience playing games (as in a movie), and as weak as it may be, a hint of remorse, haunting, crushingly nightmarish, paralizing.
Who's next?
3 Deputy Chiefs, who's the county boss without one?
3 Deputy Chiefs, who's the county boss without one?
Why does she and Miller need three Deputies and one Chief? Miller started the tradition and Quinn says 'its Miller time!'
this line of reasoning that Quinn is removing great public servants for Queens County hacks fails to acknowledge one important point--who do you think elected the last 2 speakers? I'm sure no one in the Council previously was a product of the Queens Machine.
When you take over a company, you should get to bring in your own people to work for you. Period.

then go to >Publications
then to >Labor Relations
The Civil List is the annual report of all City of New York employees listed by name, title, agency and salary.
For all to see.

2:26 That's why there is such a thing Civil Service and why the Council should NOT be exempt from it. Of course, we know you have current job at the Council is protected, its called PATRONAGE.
maura was quinn's former cheif of staff. lucy worked for quinn too. Kevin has been working for the council for years and ran the operations dividsion under Vallone (and worked on his '98 and '01 campaigns). Ramon also worked for Vallone. Reporters - stop being so lazy. do some investigating!
How are reporters being lazy? Is anyone tracking the Mayor's new hires?
Ironically, after the Charter Reform, Vallone actually hired professionals (although not always) but Quinn is bluntly replacing professionals, many of whom were there before Miller, with people who will work in her campaign once her term limit is over.
It's an established fact that Miller did hire a bunch of hacks, most of whom are still at the Council, so its not surprising that Quinn continues the tradition. But, she could have done much better.
It's too late for her, the train has left the station. The waters have started to rise.
I hope the press people are reading this thread, specially since Quinn's people are.
