Stanley Schlein on the Loose

In an investigative profile in The Village Voice, Tom Robbins delves into Stanley Schlein's record, not as lawyer to George Steinbrenner, nor as counsel to the Bronx Democratic Party-which he both, fortunately for the new Yankee stadium, serves as. But rather as court-appointed guardian for the incapacitated.

The message: Don't live in the Bronx if you value your money.

Stanley Schlein is Chairman for the New York City Civil Service Commission and attorney for the Bronx Democratic Committee. He has violated several City rules and regulations. Norma Lopez, a female friend of Chairman Schlein was appointed General Counsel on November 1, 2004, which resulted in her receiving back pay for starting a position prior to her being appointed to the position. Her appointment occurred on December 2, 2004. Chairman Stanley Schlein, the attorney for the Bronx Democratic Committee, hired and supervised Ms. Lopez, a member of the Bronx Democratic Committee. In addition, there was an inquiry into whether Chairman Stanley Schlein was in violation of Section 1126 of the New York City Charter because of his position as attorney for the Bronx Democratic Committee, yet Peter Madonia, ex-chief of staff never went to the Conflict of Interest Board to determine if there was truly a violation.
