Sharpton on Obama, Media Obsession With
Al Sharpton's spokeswoman just sent over this statement on today's announcement from Barack Obama:
-- Azi Paybarah"I am watching the race as it forms and though I certainly feel that Senator Obama, Senator Clinton, Senator Dodd, Senator Edwards and others each offer very unique and admirable attributes, many of us will judge the candidates based upon their policies, platforms, and track records, not based upon the media's obsession with distraction from the critical elements of their campaigns. My personal decision regarding 2008 will be determined only by the consideration of those in the race and what they stand for and aggressively crusade for."

Does anyone really care about Sharpton's "mickey mouse" presidential runs?
It's pretty funny when someone who lives and dies by his ability to generate good copy for the press starts to whine when someone else does better.
There's an old line Al should be familiar with, "Don't hate the player, hate the game."
Obama received 3,597,456 votes in Illinois. I don't think Al has received that many votes when you add up the votes he has received in every election he has run in. Why are his comments more relevant than Lyndon Larouche's?
Sharpton is no dummy... and he does carry sway with a lot of blacks. I wouldn't be surprised if he's getting in to this, or thinking about it, to cut down on Obama's influence/effect and make it easier on Hillary.
If democrats are to be taken seriously in 2008 they need to distance themselves from Sharpton. He does much more harm than good to candidates; I find it hard to believe that anyone takes him seriously anymore. Just look at what happened with his Ferrer "Salsa Ad"...
...although it does give Curtis Sliwa the chance to go on more "Al 'Slim Shady' Sharpton" rants...
If Sharpton does carry sway with a lot of blacks, how come so few of them voted for him. He lost Ed Towns & Major Owens districts to "soul brother" John Kerry.
Yeah, why is the political establishment -at least within the Democratic party-going along with the sanitization of Sharpton? Does everyone have amnesia about his history? "White interlopers?" Crown Heights? etc. FBI informer? Financial issues?
I'm not one of those kneeling at the Obama alter. He's been an elected official ten years. I want someone to tell me what of substance he's done and what meaningful bills he's sponsored. It's time we stop going for folks cause we like them. George Bush was LIKED, have we learned nothing? Sharpton's right, let's wait and see and hear. Above all let's THINK for a change and stop drinking the flavor of the week kool aide.
Al has become a disappointment even to his stanch supporters. Al has shown the world, once again, why he would never be Presidential material. His self-absorbed 'id' and ego has finally gotten the best of him. Al will now sit in the corner biting his nails filled with envy and jealously plotting evil thoughts of Obama from him tripping on a small rock outside in his backyard to the Republicans taking the White House, yet again, just to spite Barack Obama.
Al is washed up like that fat fish on Frasier, the only problem is, no one want to throw him back in his ocean to give him another chance, we rather watch him get gray as his heart fills with envy and jealously.
Al Sharpton knows which side his bread is buttered on. He will not endorse anyone until after Super Tuesday Feb 5th.
He wants to make sure he endorses the person that is going to win. So he will wait and see which way the wind is blowing and hope he is right. Bill Clinton was always good to him and he doesn't want to make any enemies, but if Obama is looking good after Feb 5th, he will take a chance and endorse him. JMO
