Really Early Numbers from Nassau

Craig Johnson's campaign just released the numbers of Democrats and Republicans who have returned absentee ballots to the Nasau County Board of Elections.

So far, 860 registered Democrats have turned in ballots, as opposed to 799 registered Republicans.

For whatever that's worth.

Also, who's that Republican mayor on Maureen O'Connell's flier?

As a Nassau resident, who knows a thing or two about North Hempstead politics, I know the GOP must be anxious this morning. This is the area where Democrats know how to get massive votes out of, and it has the weakest of the 3 Republican Town organizations. Great Neck alone usually gives the Democratic candidate a 6-1 plurality in a November election. In fact, many voting machines are in the lobbys of the big Great Neck Condos, co-ops and apartments. Their residents just have to take the elevator to vote, a big consideration on a brutally cold day like today. Mineola, Hicksville and New Hyde Park homeowners won't have the same advantage. Both Craig and Maureen are good candidates and would be good Senators if elected; but Maureen and the GOP had to do more to offset the well organized Democrats in North Hempstead Town. Bottom line: I think Johnson will win because of the organization's GOTV effort and the name Balboni becomes a 4-letter word to Republicans in New York State.
