Gotbaum Grabs Collins
Expect to start seeing more of Betsy Gotbaum starting Monday when John Collins joins her staff as a press secretary. Collins toiled away for a year in Christine Quinn's press office and, as you can see here, enjoys chatting with reporters.
This is the second time Gotbaum has snapped up an operative associated with a potential 2009 rivals. She previously hired Mark Benoit, who ran Anthony Weiner's campaign in 2005.

She is sooooooo running for Mayor.
Redikulus.
John is an amazing guy....This is going to be really good for Betsy
She does actually need to DO something first though
4:30 -- why? who has done more, besides issue a lot of press releases?
Is that politicker alum ben smith peeking over the paper
This is great news for Betsy!!!! John is going to rock over there
Great for you John! Best of luck.
Well...she had snapped up a VID leader in 2005, and the club still ended up endorsing Norman Siegel instead of her.
Say what you want about Betsy, John is going to be missed by those in the Council who relied on him for his professionalism, tact and knowledge. Always willing to lend a hand, no questions asked. God speed John, you will be missed.
It does look like Betsy is going to run for mayor. Of course she does not have a prayer of winning but she could really hurt Christine as the second woman in the race. I would say this is good news for Anthony and Bill.
someone please let the public know exactly what d Mr. Collins duties at the Council. Is he the number 1, 2 or three person in Ms. Quinn's office
Mr. Collins is another Central Staff member that was able to break free from Speaker Quinn's City Council. Working at the City Council is like living at Jonestown. Speaker Quinn is like an always horny Jim Jones.
Speaker Quinn has her aides that are like Junkyard dogs guarding the small amount of turf power they have in the City Council Junkyard. Jeremy Hoffman is like Quinn's giant Rodent.
Many of the City's political clubs will be waiting to campaign against Quinn when she decides to run for any elective office again.
Thank you Rob Newman for destroying the City Council!
