The Anti-Bonnie Raitt Vote

Freshman Representative John Hall got a boost during his campaign from his days as a bare-chested rock and roller with the group Orleans. But now, a few months into his first term, a Republican has stepped up to challenge him, criticizing not only his position on Iraq, but his ties to the music industry.

Kieran Michael Lalor, a former marine who served in Iraq, has launched an exploratory committee to run the 19th congressional district in the Hudson Valley, which Hall represents. Among his complaints:

Hall's campaign was supported by the likes of Susan Sarandon, who is so radical she was uninvited to a 2003 event at the baseball Hall of Fame because she was actively undermining the morale of American troops in Iraq. Musician Bonnie Raitt, who in 1999 traveled to Cuba to play for Castro and bash the United States in the Karl Marx Theatre, played a concert to raise money for the Hall Campaign.

You can run, Kieran, but you can't make me love you. In 2 years' time, we'll still be having fun, and John'll still be the one!

Hall should pray that his GOP opponent will run on these issues.

Anonymous says:

as long as this guy (or someone of equal intellect) ends up being the republican nominee, i think it is safe to say that hall will be re-elected

Hall should hope another RINO steps up. That's how Sue Kelly lost this conservative district in the first place.

Anyway, as theh post indicates these aren't the issues he's running on. I am sure voters would like to know John Hall is supported by these jerks. And it doesnt even mention Pete Seeger, an avowed communist who was happy to endorse Hall.

Yeah, you sure have your fingertips on the pulse of the suburban-exurban Westchester-Putnam-Rockland voters, Steveo. Circa 1968, anyway.

Politiko (not verified) says:

I have a feeling the race to watch will be in the GOP primary. There are a lot of people in this district who were furious when Mr. Hall was elected. There are likely to be a lot of people running for the honor to run against an incumbent Dem when the country will likely still be at war with Iraq, and George Bush will still be president. In this district, which had a very long serving member of congress, I'm sure there are a lot of people waiting in the wings to run for this seat, the least of which will be a former marine who served in Iraq. Heck, even my secretary's mother is talking about running (I'm not kidding), so I'm sure we'll be hearing a lot of people declare in the next year.

The main force in Cooperstown is the Clark(e)(?) family, which is conservative - Ari Fleischer is a friend. The town survives on a sort of noblesse oblige by that family (whose money comes from the Singer Sewing Machine company). So it's not as if the Hall of Fame taking offense indicates that someone is taking a position that would offend reasonable people.

Everlast (not verified) says:

Bush carried NY's 19th Dist. in 00 and 04 and increased his vote total and margin of victory the second time.

That sounds pretty conservative to me.

I'd vote for this guy if I lived up there.
