Frieden on Circumcision, the Times
The city's health commissioner is attempting to clarify his position on government support for circumcision as a means of reducing the spread of HIV and AIDS.
In a letter forwarded to me by a reader (and subsequently posted on this website), Tom Frieden wrote:
"We do not yet know what impact circumcision could have on HIV transmission in New York City, and we have not suggested or planned any initiative or campaign. Quite to the contrary, I indicated in an interview with the New York Times (the source of the misrepresentation) that I very much doubted that even 1% of men at high risk in NYC would undergo the procedure."
The rest of the letter is here.

I've never seen a bigger bunch of morons running the city.
Yeah, well, at least Frieden got something right: less than 1% of us uncircumcized men in "high-risk" categories are going to take 2 weeks off to get our schlongs sliced and diced. A lot less than 1%, in fact!
This Health Commissioner can't even stop rats from living in Toco Bells, now he wants to be messing around with the family jewels.
By the way how widespread who miss rats and other problems because they do not want to do the paper work.
It's called a shower. Granted most of the studies are being done where running water is a luxury, but the whole idea that circumcising people somehow reduces the spread of HIV is the stupidest thing I've heard since bloodletting. The only thing circumcision is spreading is herpes.
Many doctors now advise to circumsize only if one is doing it for religious reasons. Always the contrarian, Frieden advises it for medical purposes, but tries to restrict its religious application.
Both the anteaters and footballs helmets leave the field as confused as ever.
A shower doesn't stop AIDS. The reason uncircumsized men are more prone to HIV is that they are more like to experience tears, which allows the virus to enter the bloodstream -- same reason women are more likely to get HIV.
high gene - "The only thingcircumcision is spreading is herpes."
Truly, you are a schmuck. Take some basic biology courses, then a primer on infectious diseases, and call me in the morning. And next time you give oral to an uncircumcized pee-pee, or allow one to penetrate you, better make sure you're carrying more than just a tube of Herpecin.
Along with tears, The science behind prophylactic circumcision is that there exists a unique type of cell close to the surface of the foreskin that more readily transmits HIV to the body. These cells also exist in the lining of the mouth, but are much farther from the surface making oral sex less risky. It has nothing to do with hygiene or running water you nitwits.
