Wolfson Hears Support for Bloomberg in Democrats' Silence

Last night on NY1's Inside City Hall, Howard Wolfson and host Dominic Carter discussed the suprising silence from the Democratic Party on Michael Bloomberg's plan to try to run for mayor again.

"Where's the statement from the state Democrats?" asked Carter.

"That's a good question," answered Wolfson, who was once the state party's spokesman. "The state Democratic Party hasn't taken a stand. I haven't really heard many Democrats take a stand, and I think that speaks to the fact that there's acquience, or support for this."

Wolfson went on, "What has surprised me the most is how few Democratic elected officials are out actually saying this is a bad idea," adding, "I actually think there is a fair amount of support for this."

Carter pointed out that the Jewish holidays might have something to do with it.

"Thats true," Wolfson said. "But perhaps there are some non-Jewish Democrats who could have come out and said something if they wanted to."

Incidentally, at 4 p.m. yesterday State Democratic Party Chairwoman June O'Neill became FaceBook friends with Kevin Sheekey, deputy mayor for all things political.

Last night, a state party spokeswoman told me the organization has no comment, and it's unclear if they will take a position on it.

Blake Zeff Will Be Obama's Man in New York

Blake Zeff, a former spokesman for Hillary Clinton, will be the new director of communications in New York for Barack Obama, effective today.

Zeff, who confirmed the move, was part of the muscular press office Clinton assembled from veterans of Chuck Schumer's legendary communications operation, but unlike Howard Wolfson or Phil Singer, Zeff stayed mostly below the radar. Since Clinton dropped out of the race he he has remained well-liked and highly regarded by the Obama campaign.

He's especially valued for his knowledge of the New York press corps, an expertise he gained working for Schumer from 2002 to 2005 and then as the communications director state Democratic party in 2006. In the interim between the two campaigns he helped Schumer with his book about how to win back the middle class.

Wolfson to Fiorina: Ha

ST. PAUL--Conveniently enough, Clinton-strategist-turned-Fox-pundit Howard Wolfson was around to provide a quick response to Carly Fiorina's assertion that while Hillary Clinton was a victim of sexism in her primary loss to Obama -- a line that McCain surrogates have pushed enthusiastically since the end of the primaries -- she had not been a target of sexism from the Republican Party.

"That's absolutely ridiculous," he said. "The Republican outrage over sexist attacks on Sarah Palin would have more legitimacy if they admitted their sexist attacks on Hillary Clinton."

Inside the Fox News Green Room in Denver, Close Quarters, Big Stars, and Observer Clumsiness

On Tuesday evening, inside the Pepsi Center in Denver, the Media Mob had a moment of clumsiness, involving Karl Rove's laptop computer.

It was a few short hours before Hillary Clinton was to address the delegates. The green room of the Fox News sky box inside the arena was buzzing with activity. Energy was high. The quarters were close.

The Media Mob was sitting on smallish couch conducting an interview with Fox News' dynamic anchor Megyn Kelly, who is reporting from the floor of the Pepsi Center, throughout the convention. A laptop computer, the screen flipped open, rested on one arm of the couch behind me. read more »

Wolfson Makes Good at a Convention He Didn't Want

DENVER—Brit Hume, Bill Kristol, Mort Kondracke and Fred Barnes were kicking around some ideas to discuss on the air as they climbed the stairs to Fox’s Election HQ newsroom, when they bumped into Howard Wolfson.

“You caused a huge uproar today,” Kondracke said approvingly, referring to a piece Wolfson had written urging Obama to reach out to Bill Clinton. “You were on the top of all the blogs.”

Wolfson, the longtime Democratic strategist and former communications director for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, smiled at their good-natured ribbing. They laughed when he laughed. Noisy, full of camaraderie and good cheer, the five of them almost looked like a team. read more »

Blogging Wolfson Says Corsi's Book is 'D.O.A.'

Howard Wolfson said that Obama Nation--the first major negative biography about Barack Obama--is "D.O.A."

On his new blog, Gotham Acme (where else?), Wolfson praised the media's efforts to debunk the claims of the author, Jerome Corsi, who also co-wrote Unfit for Command.

“The media, which all too often covered the claims of Corsi and his allies uncritically in 04, have focused instead on reporting the inaccuracy of his charges in 08,” Wolfson writes.

Gotham Acne went up this Sunday and, according to Wolfson, will include “musings about music, and, from time to time, politics.” (Wolfson, formerly Hillary Clinton's communications director and now a commentator for Fox News, is a well-established music junkie.)

Now Fox News Really Has the Inside Track on Hillary Clinton!

Sean Hannity didn’t waste much time before he started asking Mr. Wolfson to report on his former boss.

“Let me start with this simple basic question,” said Mr. Hannity. “I think everybody wants to know, the rumors have been swirling. Has Hillary been asked to participate in the process, the vetting process, for VP?”

"Not as far as I know," said Mr. Wolfson.
