Tonight, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and The Colbert Report are set to return to Comedy Central, albeit without their writers, who remain out on strike.

And without certain guests, such as Katrina vanden Heuvel and Naomi Klein who recently turned down invitations to appear on the show.

Those authors, actors, and politicians who do accept invitations to be on the shows on Monday will be forced to cross a picket line. read more »

Now we can truly witness how clever Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are on their cable news satire shows. They'll be returning to their daily recordings on Jan. 7. The announcement arrives just days after their network predecessors announced their return to late-night on Jan. 2.

Late-Night Shows Could Be Back Soon

There may be no end in sight to the writers strike, but the late-night shows could soon be back on the air anyway.

The Writers Guild said over the weekend that it would be willing to sign individual agreements with media companies, and the independent company that owns The Late Show with David Letterman said it plans to take advantage of that move to work towards a deal, according to several reports. read more »

Jon Stewart's Unhappy Sojourn on Planet Hollywood

On the night of Nov. 16, Jon Stewart gave a rare stand-up performance at the grand opening of the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, in Las Vegas. His act was introduced by Planet Hollywood founder Sylvester Stallone ("I would like to introduce the man who taught me how to do one armed pushups,") and was followed by a blues concert by another Planet Hollywood founder Bruce Willis. ("I got to get out that window, I'm too young to die," he sang.)

In between the two action stars, Stewart, dressed casually and free to curse, observed that the junk-cluttered walls of the theater, which is usually the site of the all-things-bangable percussion spectacle "Stomp," looked like they were made out of a magnet.

He riffed on O.J. Simpson's arrest for armed robbery, and joked that since O.J. got off for murder last time, he was probably now thinking to himself, "I should have killed those motherfuckers." read more »

Remains of the Day: Kanye, Jon Stewart, Godspell

Somehow we missed the premiere of the Daft Punk’s “Harder Better Faster Stronger” video, which was shot by more than 250 fans at their Coney Island concert on Aug. 9 with handheld cameras. Where’s my glowstick?

Kanye West will unleash his endless wisdom in book form! You can pre-order it already.

Culturegrrl says Jon Stewart’s art humor is irresponsible. How quaint.

Chris Brown, the youngin who sang that “Run It” club hit a couple years ago, says he switched from making music to starring in movies so he can prove he can sing.

Godspell is holding casting calls! You have two weeks to “learn your lessons well,” kids.

Just How Smart Are Jon Stewart's Clap-Happy Fanboys?

You know those people who think they know everything because they watch The Daily Show with Jon Stewart?

Maybe they do!

The Pew Research Center recently surveyed viewers of The Daily Show, among some 1,500 subjects, and concluded they were the most knowledgeable audience when it comes to the things the makers of the survey find out about by reading the news the same time Mr. Stewart’s writers do. read more »
