A Reader's Guide to Celebrity Parent Tell-All Books

Apparently, an increasingly coherent and aware Britney Spears is upset about her mother Lynne's forthcoming tell-all, Through the Storm. The book reveals, among other things, that the pop star lost her virginity at 14 and began drinking in middle school, along with embarrassing details about Britney's many, many crack-ups. No longer content to act as a passive, panty-less A.T.M. for everyone in her circle, Spears is "furious" with her mother, especially since she thinks Lynne "caused so many of her problems and issues" to begin with. We're inclined to believe her--history tells us that just about everything can be blamed on overbearing, childhood-denying, money-hungry stage parents. read more »

The Jonas Brothers Invade the Hamptons; Ali Lohan is Nonplussed

The Daily Transom had never experienced Jonas Brothers mania in its purest form until we journeyed to their concert at the Ross School in East Hampton on Saturday, August 9. The Jonas Brothers are a Disney-promoted band of three brothers from Wyckoff, New Jersey--youngest brother Nick, who is 15, used to date Miley Cyrus and is now dating Disney star Selena Gomez (to Ms. Cyrus's chagrin, it is claimed); they tour with another Disney star named Demi Lovato; they are cute, but they are also Evangelical Christians and wear Promise Rings, so parents do not have to worry that their famously tight pants mean they will be talking about scary things like Sex and Drugs. read more »

Denise Richards and Dina Lohan Put Up Big Numbers for E!

Not long ago, the actor Charlie Sheen reportedly encouraged TV viewers to boycott the new reality show featuring his ex-wife Denise Richards, and their two young daughters.

To judge by the show's opening numbers, Mr. Sheen's boycott may have backfired. read more »

Lindsay Lohan: 'See Me Eat Cranberry Sauce!'

It looks like Lindsay Lohan has started to use the public’s hunger for pictures of her to the benefit of her wallet—something that has reportedly been a little thin of late. According to MSNBC, Ms. Lohan, 21, contacted a few media outlets to see if they wanted to fork over some serious cash in exchange for photos of her, mother Dina, little sis Ali, brothers and boyfriend Riley Giles munching, presumably behind closed doors, on Thanksgiving dinner.

“She thinks she’s a huge star. She thinks everyone is dying to read about her, but she’s lost her fan base. Her decisions are being driven by cash, not repairing her image,” an unnamed source, who claimed to be among those approached by the star, said. Ms. Lohan, who is preparing to record her third album, apparently started with a six-figure asking price before it was whittled to $20,000.

No photos have yet been sold, and the actress-singer’s rep denies the photographic yard sale ever happened. The day after Thanksgiving, however, Ms. Lohan was followed by her usual pack of paparazzi to Armani Exchange and Intermix boutiques in Manhattan. That trip, said another source close to the celebrity shopaholic, was arranged between Ms. Lohan and said stores. They added, “Seems like everything Lindsay does is to make money.” Well, not everything.

Lohan in Town for Turkey, Swank Spaghetti

This year, Lindsay Lohan has decided to give thanks for all her, um, good fortune in our fair city. The 21-year-old actress, who spent a few minutes in an L.A. jail last week for a pre-rehab dustup with the law, was spotted supping at Cipriani with her mother, Dina, and beaux du jour, Riley Giles. By the look on Ms. Lohan’s face in one lucky paparazzo’s snapshot, she was either shocked by the eatery’s $50 fritto misto or miffed at the snooping photog. (At least tomorrow over turkey, LiLo can give thanks that her mother isn’t starring in her own reality T.V. show!) Whatever the case, Ms. Lohan is apparently shacking up for the holiday at the Ritz Carlton on Central Park South, where she flashed the Transom a few months back.

Dina Lohan Speaks: Back to Reality!

Lindsay Lohan’s mother, Dina, was partying Tuesday night at the Tropicana Zone in Times Square.

“I’m doing a reality show; if you asked me two years ago, I’d be like, ‘You guys are smoking crack! I’m not doing this!’ But now I realize that I have no choice. I have to fix it for my little kids, and I have to fix my life,” she explained, while two ambiguous video-camera crews, complete with blinding lights, swirled around Ms. Lohan, 45, and her touchy twenty-something male friend, who was smiling behind strangely-appropriate dark sunglasses. read more »
