DENVER—"There's my girl!" Chevy Chase bellowed as Madeline Albright walked into the backroom of the Vanity Fair-Google party on Thursday, August 28. The towering comedian, who was clad in a blazer, T-shirt and jeans, bent down to embrace his old friend. They discussed plans to get together—Mr. Chase promising an e-mail from "his people"—mugged for the cameras, and agreed that Barack Obama had nailed his speech. "If we're seen together, you're in trouble," joked the funnyman.

After a hearty laugh, conversation returned to the speech. Ms. Albright said that while the presidential candidate is incredibly charming in person, she was also pleased with the "diplomacy" of the speech.  read more »

On Saturday, World AIDS Day, New Yorkers marked a grave occasion in the usual fashion: with retail!

Among those who turned up at the Kiehl's store on Third Avenue, where motorcyles adorn the windows and a portion of the day's proceeds went to the cause, were Dina and Alli Lohan (Lindsay is so last year). Chloe Sevigny, in massive leather Cloak coat and gray knit beret, ducked in to do her part, gamely posing for photos and chatting about her dry winter hands (she is a fan of Ultimate Strength Hand Salve, she said, though she can never remember its name, because her boyfriend turns all products backwards on the shelf).  read more »

Today’s movies are often filled with paranoia, and sometimes they get too schizophrenic for coherence or comfort. But a movie that is about nothing but paranoid schizophrenia from start to finish is rare as an authentic, autographed eight-by-10 of Jack the Ripper. A sick little number called Bug is just such a movie. Bring a barf bag.  read more »
