The Coen Brothers join Francis Ford Coppola, James Cameron and Billy Wilder in the list of directors that have received three awards for a single film at the Oscars. Their brooding, bloody tale of violence No Country for Old Men won best picture, director and adapted screenplay. Year of the Click-Clack? Rudin Rues What Could Have Been
New York producer—and the city's worst boss, according to Gawker—has two—count 'em!—two films nomimated for the best picture Oscar, There Will Be Blood and No Country for Old Men. And what's he have to say to the Guardian about it? "Is there any outrage in England that Jonny Greenwood wasn't nominated?" Modest, eh? Greenwood, a member of Radiohead and a composer in residence for BBC, composed the haunting soundtrack for Blood, which was ruled ineligible due to the use of previously released material. Meanwhile, scores for Atonement, The Kite Runner, Michael Clayton, Ratatouille and 3:10 to Yuma were considered sufficiently original and nominated. No Country For Old Men Tops the SAG Awards
The Coen brothers’ No Country For Old Men won the top prize at the 14th annual Screen Actors Guild awards show, while The Sopranos cleaned up in the television categories. With this year's Golden Globes reduced to a press conference and the fate of next month's Oscars uncertain, the ordinarily downplayed Screen Actors Guild Awards made big headlines thanks to the WGA’s promise that it would not picket the show, a sign of solidarity with actors who have been supportive of the writers’ ongoing push to be compensated for new media content. No Country Big Winner at NY Film Critics Awards
The New York Film Critics Circle follows the National Board of Review of Motion Pictures route and gives the Coen Brothers' No Country for Old Men top accolades during today's voting. The film won best film, best screenplay, best director and Javier Bardem received the best supporting actor award.
