Ahoy, Matey! Liam McMullan Shivers Me Timbers in Betsey Johnson Show
Inside the tent where Betsey Johnson would show her Spring 2009 collection, cupcakes and colorful swirly lollipops were laid out on petite party tables covered in starred table cloths that substituted for the front row, which was looking more like a children’s birthday party than a fashion show.
The arrangement was rather tight despite being the official VIP seating. (The Daily Transom spotted doll-like Village Voice fashion columnist Lynn Yaeger and Paper Magazine's Mickey Boardman crammed together at what looked like a children's table after they were seated.)
Betsey Johnson co-founder Chantal Bacon, whom the Daily Transom found greeting guests in the cheerful front row, said the theme was Peter Pan. read more »
The Transom in Print, August 27, 2008: The Almost-End of Another Summer in the Hamptons; Josh Lucas at the DNC
Transom correspondent Spencer Morgan is in Denver this week, talking his way into all sorts of political-slash-celebrity bashes. At the Creative Coalition event on Monday evening, he cornered Josh Lucas, Alan Cumming and the West Wing's Richard Schiff.
Meanwhile, in the Hamptons, George Gurley sunned his buns and found Russell Simmons, Stephanie Wei and Liam McMullan hanging out at an American Red Cross party at the estate where Mariah Carey got married a couple months ago. The songbird was nowhere in sight, but Ms. Wei and Mr. McMullan were more than happy to share their thoughts on the summer. "The Hamptons are like Disney World!" sniffed Ms. Wei.
Also: Meredith Bryan chats with model-socialite Elettra Wiedemann (daughter of Isabella Rossellini) about her new T-shirt line, whose proceeds go to help hospitals in Burundi, and Jonathan Liu thinks he may have found the real Gossip Girl—and she's wearing teal velour.
Stephanie Goes Bombs-A-Wei From Plane In Lark with Liam McMullan
On Saturday, Aug. 23, several hundred people gathered at Stone Meadow Farm, an estate in East Hampton where Mariah Carey recently got hitched, to celebrate the 125th birthday of the American Red Cross. Russell Simmons, whose eponymous jewelry line was one of the evening’s sponsors, told us that it had been the summer of Barack Obama, as well as yoga, the environment, PETA, the Humane Society and fund-raisers (his July 19 Art for Life event raised $1.7 million).
Liam McMullan, the 20-year-old son of photographer Patrick McMullan, and Stephanie Wei were sitting nearby. One night earlier this summer, the two were hanging out at 2 a. read more »
Liam McMullan on Friendship, Tattoos, and the Ladies
When we ran into Liam McMullan on Wednesday night at Andy Warhol's 80th Birthday bash, we wondered how he was doing with those headaches of his and what else he might be working on.
"I just finished a screenplay!" he told the Daily Transom. "It's actually a three-part screenplay about a drug dealer in the '80s."
Interesting. But what about that album he was making with Izzy Gold? And actually, speaking of Mr. Gold, how is he doing with that empire of his?
"Which one?"
Pardon?
"Yeah, which one. Do you mean Francesco or Chris Young? Because there are two Izzy Golds now, and there is a whole thing going on with that." read more »
Andy Warhol at 80, Now With Extra Vermouth
On Wednesday evening, the Daily Transom found itself at a curious little gathering in the Sky Lounge at the New Museum to celebrate what would have been Andy Warhol’s 80th birthday.
There was 75-year-old actress Sylvia Miles, who was Mr. Warhol’s muse and was nominated for an Oscar for her role as the wealthy seductress in Midnight Cowboy. And there was 59-year-old Geraldine Smith, another one of Mr. Warhol's It Girls whom he discovered at the age of 16, reclining on the banquette near Ms. Miles. And 29-year-old Mena Suvari, posing for photos in a skin-binding black minidress, her bleached blond hair severely styled into a look not unlike Mr. read more »

Patrick McMullan and son Liam, were scheduled to host a party at Dune on Friday night, but the event was cancelled after the younger Mr. McMullan and his music producer, Chris Young, handed out invitations depicting them smoking pot. [P6]

Lineup for June 11, 2008
Leon Neyfakh looks at Jane Friedman's departure from HarperCollins and writes, "There are questions now about what really happened, and the official story does not seem to add up. How long had Ms. Friedman known she was being replaced? Had she really submitted her resignation, or did Mr. Murdoch fire her? If he did, then why?"
Spencer Morgan meets Liam McMullan, son of celebrity party photographer Patrick McMullan. "I’ve always wanted to do lots of things, like direct movies, and write things, and make art, all different types," says Mr. McMullan.
Plus: Richard Engel... Reporting from Baghdad... Cute fuzzy animals.
Liam McMullan, Purple Prince of the City
“I’ve been too high lately to be terrified of anything,” Liam McMullan said as he loped down Broadway on a recent afternoon to audition for a remake of the movie Fame. Twenty years old, he wore jeans, a purple T-shirt, beat-up Chuck Taylors and a Batman fanny pack containing a jar of marijuana, a bottle of Excedrin for the migraines he been getting lately, and a cell phone and iPod.
When he was 2 years old, Liam was featured in a VH1 special on children with wild parents—his are nightlife society photographer Patrick McMullan and the artist Laurie Ogle. His godparents are Village Voice gossip columnist Michael Musto and Mudd Club DJ Anita Sarko. His parents brought Liam to Warhol’s Factory when he has 3 weeks old. They never married. read more »
Leven Rambin to Record Fergie-esque Album for Izzy Gold
Izzy Gold, who is a Renaissance man by the definitions of contemporary young Manhattan society (T-shirt designer, D.J., and dear friend to Ally Hilfiger) has added another feather to his cap: Izzy Gold Records.
The fledgling record label is working with three tentpole artists who will be familiar to the types of people who are familiar with the rest of Mr. Gold's social oeuvre.
One is the 17-year-old protosocialite and All My Children actress, Leven Rambin. The second is party-chronicler Patrick McMullan’s son, Liam McMullan. The third is Mr. Gold himself. read more »
